Chapter 78: Forced Kiss

Luo Jinxiao snatched the booklet back, coughing twice. “I’ve been overthinking things lately, so I just wanted to take a look.”

Qu Weiyin was speechless for a moment. She felt she should say something, but didn’t know where to begin. In the end, she simply waved her hand, dismissing Luo Jinxiao.

Luo Jinxiao, as if granted a pardon, ran out immediately.

Qu Weiyin walked to the window, watching Luo Jinxiao’s figure disappear into the night. She sighed deeply, her eyelashes fluttering as a faint smile touched her lips.

The scenery outside the window remained unchanged after ten years. The bright moon hung high in the sky, the night was cool as water, turning the layered clouds to amber.

Peaceful and serene.

After an unknown amount of time, under the moonlight, the lights suddenly went out, and Qu Weiyin’s figure disappeared from the window.

The night’s flower garden blocked out the moonlight, leaving only a few swaying moon shadows. Red robes brushed against flower petals, making a rustling sound.

Qu Weiyin arrived at the bamboo hut and knocked gently on the door. It creaked open, and a voice from inside invited her in.

The Sect Leader sat on a bamboo platform in the courtyard, her skirt spread around her. Traces of blood were faintly visible on her sleeve hems, but her expression was calm, as if nothing had happened.

Qu Weiyin concealed the emotion in her eyes, closed the door, and approached.

The two sat facing each other, one in red and one in white, both silent for a moment.

“Sect Leader, why did you summon me?” Qu Weiyin finally asked.

“Nothing in particular,” the Sect Leader shook her head slightly. Her white hair was dappled with shadows from the flowers. She was truly beautiful, even Qu Weiyin had to admit it.

“Thank you for saving my life five years ago, Sect Leader,” Qu Weiyin said.

“Someone was willing to exchange their life for yours. I just acted on impulse. It’s nothing,” the Sect Leader shook her head.

“Did youโ€ฆ use the Shan He Tu?” Qu Weiyin frowned, sensing something unusual.

The Sect Leader’s smile faded. She nodded self-deprecatingly and extended her hand, inviting Qu Weiyin to touch it.

Qu Weiyin touched it with her fingertips, her phoenix eyes widening. “How did you sustain such a severe injury?”

If she remembered correctly, the Sect Leader’s cultivation was the same as her own in her past life, having already reached the Great Ascension stage. The next step would be cultivating to demigod status. But now, her internal spiritual roots seemed withered and dried up.

“In past battles between immortals and demons, I could hold my ground to some extent. But with this broken body now, I don’t know what to do,” the Sect Leader said with a sigh.

“So you went to cultivate the Shan He Tu?” Qu Weiyin withdrew her hand.

“I just wanted to try, and this is the result. People die, even if they cultivate to immortality, they can’t escape aging and death,” the Sect Leader shook her head, smiling faintly.

“The Immortal Realm has no leader. Over the years, they have neglected their cultivation, and there is no one capable of taking charge. The Demon Realm has obtained the Netherworld Diagram and is growing stronger by the day. I originally wanted to die at Southern Peak, but I can’t let go of this world,” the Sect Leader murmured.

Qu Weiyin fell silent. She gazed intently at the Sect Leader, feeling as if her clear, glass-like eyes could see through her heart.

“I sensed it the moment you entered, the overflowing demonic energy,” the Sect Leader continued.

Qu Weiyin’s gaze became evasive.

โ€œDon’t be afraid. I know that someone truly loved by that girl Luo Jinxiao can’t be a real demon.”

“Besides you and Luo Jinxiao, no one knows about the existence of the Shan He Tu, and she is far less capable than you. So I’m asking you to help me cultivate,” the Sect Leader said calmly.

She pulled a scroll from her sleeve and placed it in front of her. With a wave of her hand, the scroll unfurled. The blank space was gone, replaced by a magnificent landscape of mountains and rivers.

Another silence fell. After a long while, Qu Weiyin suddenly reached out and pressed her hand on the scroll.

“Give it to me,” Qu Weiyin said.

Communication between intelligent individuals didn’t require words. Their eyes met, and the Sect Leader released the scroll.

“Take care,” the Sect Leader said.

“This is my fate,” Qu Weiyin said calmly. “As you know, with demonic energy, cultivation becomes twice as effective with half the effort.”

The door creaked open. Qu Weiyin turned her head and her gaze fell upon a delicate, translucent ice figurine on the table. She stared at it for a moment, then suddenly spoke. “If I’m gone, please take care of Jinxiao.”

With that, she flicked her sleeve and departed.

The Sect Leader clutched her chest, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth and staining her white robes.

An old woman rushed forward and wiped the blood from her lips, her face etched with worry. “Sect Leader, why do you have to get involved in these matters again?”

“Those who value emotions deeply can achieve great things, but also struggle with them. This is her fate, and mine as well,” the Sect Leader said.

A few days later, the Wuhui Sect bustled with activity once more. People from various sects arrived one after another, each bearing gifts, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

Luo Jinxiao, dressed in a welcoming attire, stood beneath the large white jade plaque of the Wuhui Sect, nodding rhythmically with an unchanging smile plastered on her face.

Opposite her, Lu Fanzhi greeted each guest with a radiant smile, guiding them into the sect for their accommodations.

“Young Cultivator Luo!” A voice called from afar. Luo Jinxiao looked up and waved.

Chi Yi, still in her warrior attire, approached with the contingent from the Qingyan Palace group. She carried a sword on her back, looking quite valiant.

“Why are you here receiving guests?” Chi Yi asked with a smile.

“It’s all thanks to my troublesome Master. My mouth is stiff from smiling,” Luo Jinxiao said, her eyes narrowed while her lips maintained their smile, creating a comical expression.

“You must be tired from your journey. Please go in,” Luo Jinxiao said, patting Chi Yi’s shoulder.

“Is the Wuhui Sect Sect Leader truly still alive? I remember the first time I saw her true face, I was just a child. I was deeply impressed by her power,” Chi Yi said.

“Of course,” Luo Jinxiao replied with a hint of pride in her voice.

After seeing Chi Yi off, most of the sects had arrived. The Baiyue Sect was the last to appear. From afar, Luo Jinxiao could see Tang Lan’er’s head adorned with an array of dazzling jewels.

Before she could hide, Tang Lan’er rushed over and grabbed her.

“Luo Jinxiao, why are you hiding?” Tang Lan’er pouted.

“I wasn’t hiding,” Luo Jinxiao touched her chin and politely gestured. “Young Sect Leader, Sect Leader, please.”

“Miss Luo, our Lan’er often speaks of you. You’ve grown quite a bit since we last met,” the Baiyue Sect Leader said with a smile, stroking his beard. His eyes held a hint of approval.

Luo Jinxiao felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze and could only smile in response.

“The Baiyue Sect is quite secluded. Lan’er has long wished to travel more. So, if you have the time, would you mind showing her around the mountain?” the Baiyue Sect Leader said magnanimously. He patted Luo Jinxiao’s shoulder and strode away.

Before Luo Jinxiao could refuse, Tang Lan’er grabbed her arm and said with a beaming smile, “See? My father already said so. You should take me for a little tour.”

“I’m busy,” Luo Jinxiao pulled her hand away and turned to leave.

โ€œOh come on! I’m cooped up in White Moon Sect all day, can’t go anywhere. Just take me down the mountain for a bit, just a little while!” Tang Lan’er pleaded, clinging to Luo Jinxiao’s arm and refusing to let go.

Finally, Luo Jinxiao relented and was dragged down the mountain by Tang Lan’er.

As their figures gradually disappeared, Lu Fanzhi stood fuming, hands on her hips, continuing to welcome the guests.

A figure in red appeared behind her. “Where’s Luo Jinxiao?”

Lu Fanzhi jumped in surprise. Turning around, she patted her chest. “Junior Shishu Qu, you scared me! That ungrateful Luo Jinxiao, the moment she has someone to back her up, she leaves me to do all the work and goes off to play with that young miss.”

“Which young miss?” Qu Weiyin frowned.

“That one from the Baiyue Sect, the one called Lan’er. She looks spoiled and arrogant, ugh,” Lu Fanzhi said indignantly.

Qu Weiyin’s eyes lowered as she hummed in acknowledgement.

A flicker of sadness crossed her face, but she quickly regained her composure and turned to leave.

“Junior Shishu Qu, is there anything you need? I can pass on a message for you!” Lu Fanzhi called after her.

Qu Weiyin stopped and shook her head. “It’s nothing. Let her enjoy herself. She deserves a break.”

Perhaps it was a good thing that Luo Jinxiao had someone else to accompany her.

Although the thought brought a sharp pang to her heart.

Luo Jinxiao spent an hour and a half with Tang Lan’er in Wuzhong City, her arms were full of purchases, so she eventually summoned Qiongqi and piled everything onto her.

” Thank you, Little Sweetie,” Luo Jinxiao waved at her.

Qiongqi looked confused, balancing a pot on her head, her neck draped with fabric, and her hands carrying gold and silver jewelry.

Tang Lan’er thoroughly explored every corner of Wuzhong City before finally heading back satisfied, not forgetting to buy a large package of braised beef for Qiongqi.

When they returned to the Wuhui Sect, it was time for dinner. Several large tables were set up on the white jade platform, surrounded by disciples and guests from various sects. Even those who practiced abstinence from food could enjoy a few cups of wine.

“I’ve never seen such a lively and joyous scene before,” Tang Lan’er said with a wide grin from afar, then tugged at Luo Jinxiao’s sleeve.

Luo Jinxiao was also surprised. Indeed, it was rare to see such a harmonious gathering where social hierarchy seemed to melt away. As expected of the Sect Leader. She suddenly recalled the story of the Sect Leader building an ice house for Zhao Zhao to dine in and chuckled.

“What are you laughing at? I haven’t abstained from food yet, I’m starving! Hurry up!” Tang Lan’er pulled her towards the white jade platform.

Luo Jinxiao had intended to find a secluded spot to sit, but across from a table surrounded by elders, the Baiyue Sect Leader was waving her over.

She reluctantly approached and stood obediently by the table.

“Come, come, sit down. Can you drink, young miss?” The Baiyue Sect Leader seemed to have taken a particular liking to her. He pushed her down next to Tang Lan’er and filled her cup to the brim.

“I can’t, Senior…” Luo Jinxiao hurriedly tried to stop him. “I’ll do it myself.”

She looked up and met Qu Weiyin’s gaze across the table. Just as she was about to greet her, Qu Weiyin averted her eyes and stared down at her own cup.

The smile froze on Luo Jinxiao’s face.

The atmosphere at the table was indeed pleasant. The elders were merrily drinking and chatting. The Sect Leader was absent, and Qu Weiyin sat motionless, seemingly detached from the surrounding merriment.

At another table filled with disciples, a drinking game had already begun.

Luo Jinxiao’s expression turned cold, her usually smiling eyes no longer curving upwards.

“Luo Jinxiao, what are you thinking about?” Tang Lan’er placed a piece of meat in Luo Jinxiao’s bowl. “I can’t drink alcohol, and this wine was brewed by my father himself. You’d better not drink it either.”

She reached out to pour out Luo Jinxiao’s drink, but Luo Jinxiao stopped her, gently shaking her head.

“It’s fine,” she said. “I have a high tolerance for alcohol. I won’t get drunk.”

Qu Weiyin caught sight of the two of them talking from the corner of her eye. A wave of unease washed over her as she drained her cup of tea, her grip tightening on the porcelain.

She deserved better. She deserved happiness.

Luo Jinxiao’s gaze burned with intensity, yet it failed to elicit even the slightest response from Qu Weiyin. A growing sense of frustration and unease welled up within Luo Jinxiao.

Her thoughts grew increasingly chaotic. Impatiently, she tipped the clear liquid from her wine cup into her mouth. Someone beside her promptly refilled it, and Luo Jinxiao continued to drink, one cup after another.

“Luo Jinxiao, put that cup down!” Elder Liu, seated a few people away, scolded her for her lack of restraint.

“Oh, let the child drink. My wine is excellent, and she’s clearly enjoying it!” The Baiyue Sect Leader said cheerfully.

Elder Liu turned to Elder He and whispered, “This is the worst wine I’ve tasted in my hundreds of years of life.”

Luo Jinxiao couldn’t quite hear their conversation. She looked at the cup in her hand with confusion. Why did she feel like she was getting drunk? Back in Luyang Province, she could drink a thousand cups without feeling a thing.

After pondering for a while, she slammed her hand on the table in anger. Those swindlers! They must have watered down the wine back then!

Across the table, Qu Weiyin noticed Luo Jinxiao’s odd behavior. With a subtle gesture, she drew the remaining half cup of wine from Luo Jinxiao’s cup. Luo Jinxiao lifted the empty cup to her lips, tilting it for a while before mumbling, “It’s gone.”

The Sect Leader beside her was about to refill Luo Jinxiao’s cup when the wine pot in his hand suddenly shattered, spilling wine all over him.

“What happened?” The Baiyue Sect Leader, slightly drunk, looked down at the broken pieces in his hand.

Qu Weiyin sighed inwardly.

In a low voice, she said, “Esteemed Elders, Sect Leader, I am feeling unwell and would like to excuse myself.”

But before she could move, a clear voice rang out from across the table. “Junior Shishu, sit down! You’re not allowed to leave today!”

All eyes turned to Luo Jinxiao, who was pointing a finger at Qu Weiyin, her gaze unfocused and her body swaying slightly.

Tang Lan’er quickly reached out to support her. “What’s wrong with you? I thought you had a high tolerance for alcohol?”

Qu Weiyin froze, then, under the scrutiny of everyone present, she obediently sat back down, surprisingly without any outburst.

“How about we follow the disciples’ example and play a drinking game?” Elder He, sensing the awkward atmosphere, suggested with a chuckle.

Everyone agreed, and they began a game of poetry chain, where failing to continue the poem meant drinking as a penalty.

The game went around the table, eventually reaching the thoroughly intoxicated Luo Jinxiao. As Tang Lan’er recited the line, “Magpies fill the river, immortal waves shallow,” Luo Jinxiao suddenly stood up and blurted out, “I like Junior Shishu!”

The table fell silent.

After a moment, Elder Liu began to cough violently, covering his mouth with his hand. After a while, he finally roared, “Luo Jinxiao, go back to your quarters this instant!”

Qu Weiyin closed her eyes, pressing her slender fingers against her forehead.

Surprisingly, she felt neither anger nor surprise, only a wave of tenderness and heartache.

The disciples at the other tables perked up their ears, eager to catch what was happening.

“I won’t go back!” Luo Jinxiao swayed, pointing at Elder Liu. “Old man with a grumpy face!”

Elder Liu rose in fury, raising his cane to strike Luo Jinxiao. . Qu Weiyin could no longer hold back. In the blink of an eye, she stood in front of Luo Jinxiao, one hand grasping her arm, the other gently turning her face away, shielding her from Elder Liu’s fury.

“How did you get so drunk? Come on, be good and let’s go back,” Qu Weiyin said softly.

Luo Jinxiao struggled to open her eyes, seeing a blurry figure resembling Qu Weiyin. She suddenly grabbed Qu Weiyin’s arm, holding her in place.

“Junior Shishu… why are you ignoring me…” she murmured, then unexpectedly leaned down and kissed Qu Weiyin’s soft, smooth lips.

Qu Weiyin’s eyes widened in surprise, caught completely off guard.

The table fell into an even deeper silence. Everyone exchanged glances, no one daring to speak.

Only Elder Liu broke the silence, striking his own forehead in dismay. “What a disgrace to our sect! What a disgrace!”
