Chapter 91: Mystery

As the incense burned out, the auspicious hour arrived.

Luo Jinxiao rose and pushed open the door, striding out into the courtyard. Qu Weiyin was already standing there, waiting. Today, Qu Weiyin’s eyebrows were painted like willow leaves, long and delicate. Her phoenix eyes held an autumnal gleam, and her red lips were shyly pressed together.

A golden crown held half her hair, with swaying tassels partially veiling her face.

Luo Jinxiao’s heart surged like the sea. She couldn’t help but smile as she stepped forward quickly.

“Jinxiao,” Qu Weiyin said softly, then placed her hand in Luo Jinxiao’s. Bound by the wedding attire, she seemed a bit more reserved, allowing Luo Jinxiao to lead her.

Suddenly, a loud clang resonated, startling Luo Jinxiao and sending a shiver down her spine. Looking up, she saw Qiongqi holding a gong, a horn in its mouth, and drumsticks wrapped around its tail, swaying as it stood.

Wedding music began to play as red paper rained down from nowhere. The tree demon and Xiu’er, also in red, emerged from the house.

Yan Ying happily hopped out, shouting, “Time for the wedding ceremony! Time for the wedding ceremony! First bow, to heaven and earth!”

Luo Jinxiao, equally shy, held Qu Weiyin’s hand as they faced the endless sky and bowed.

May heaven and earth bear witness and bless their eternal love.

“Second bow… well, no parents here, so bow to each other!” Yan Ying yelled at the top of her lungs.

Luo Jinxiao turned and met Qu Weiyin’s eyes. Qu Weiyin suddenly smiled, a radiant and gentle smile that seemed to dim the surrounding light, leaving only her shining brightly in Luo Jinxiao’s vision.

They slowly bowed, their eyes never leaving each other.

May they never be separated.

“Ceremony complete! Congratulations to both couples!”

Luo Jinxiao was overwhelmed with joy. As she raised her head, Qu Weiyin rushed into her arms, holding her waist tightly and smiling up at her.

“I’m so happy, Jinxiao,” she whispered.

Just as Luo Jinxiao was about to reply, another loud boom echoed, different from the previous one. This one was a ferocious, earth-shattering roar that shook the ground beneath them.

The joyous music abruptly stopped. Qiongqi dropped the horn and let out a sudden roar.

“What’s happening?” Yan Ying was also stunned. She stood on tiptoe and looked into the distance. The mountain forest, which had been peaceful just moments before, was now engulfed in billowing smoke. Faint screams and cries could be heard, sending chills down their spines.

The sounds seemed to be coming from the demon realm.

“No… this is bad,” Qu Weiyin suddenly said. Her figure instantly transformed into a flash of light and flew away.

Luo Jinxiao didn’t have time to stop her. She quickly held back the tree demon and the others who wanted to follow, saying sternly, “Stay here, don’t go anywhere. Qiongqi, let’s go!”

She leaped into the air, mounting her sword and chasing after Qu Weiyin relentlessly. After flying over a small hill, a scene of chaos unfolded before her eyes. The barrier had been broken at some point, and countless lesser demons were fleeing in all directions. Bodies lay scattered on the ground, a veritable scene of carnage.

“How could this be…” Luo Jinxiao whispered, unable to believe her eyes. Then, her heart tightened, and she shouted, “Qu Weiyin!”

There was no response. Qu Weiyin had vanished, and now the air was filled with chaotic demonic energy, making it impossible for Luo Jinxiao to discern anything.

This is bad, her mind was in turmoil. Although Qu Weiyin was powerful, her mental defenses were currently weak. If things went wrong, it would be over.

She sped forward, frantically searching for Qu Weiyin.

The scene below was like a living hell, with fires burning everywhere. The demons who lived here were mostly innocent and had never experienced battle. They were no match for the invaders and could only meet their demise.

Luo Jinxiao chased after them, witnessing numerous corpses, both transformed and untransformed, her heart constricting painfully.

The deeper she went, the more bodies she saw. The sounds of shouting and fighting were not far away. She used her cultivation to flash forward and saw a flower demon, holding a thorny stick in her hand, facing dozens of men in black.

“The Shengsi Sect!” Luo Jinxiao was shocked. Why would the Shengsi Sect invade the demon realm and commit such a massacre? Had they gone mad?

Hua Xianrui, far from her usual self, stood resolute, single-handedly protecting hundreds of lesser demons behind her. However, the flower petals she conjured were dwindling, a clear indication that she couldn’t hold on much longer.

Upon closer inspection, a wound on her chest was visible, staining her clothes red.

Luo Jinxiao was caught in a dilemma. She needed to find Qu Weiyin quickly, but if she left now, these demons would surely perish.

Suddenly, Hua Xianrui coughed up blood and fell to her knees. A group of men in black excitedly charged forward, scattering the terrified lesser demons.

Luo Jinxiao could hesitate no longer. She drew her sword and descended, her spiritual power exploding with a thunderous roar. The shockwave forced the men in black to retreat.

However, they seemed to have gone berserk, their eyes filled with greed, as they continued to charge forward. Sensing something amiss, Luo Jinxiao no longer held back. Her Wujue technique manifested hundreds of clones, poised like arrows on a bowstring. Simultaneously, she unleashed a palm strike infused with divine power, tearing up the ground and creating a whirlwind of dust and flying sword light.

When the dust settled, the men in black lay scattered on the ground, unable to rise.

Luo Jinxiao turned to help Hua Xianrui up, only to discover, to her horror, that she had been stabbed through the heart at some point. Blood flowed unceasingly, and a strange fragrance emanated from her body, as if attempting to paint the heavens and earth in its scent during its owner’s final moments.

Luo Jinxiao quickly knelt down, channeling her spiritual power into Hua Xianrui’s body in an attempt to heal her. However, she found herself powerless. Hua Xianrui’s demonic power was dissipating too quickly.

“Hua Xianrui, hold on,” Luo Jinxiao choked, tears welling up in her eyes.

“It’s no use. Don’t worry about me,” Hua Xianrui said weakly. She turned and waved to the lesser demons, who tearfully scattered and hid in the forest.

Relieved, she turned back to Luo Jinxiao, her gaze lingering on her face. “Don’t waste time. Find Immortal Qu. She went to Tian Mountain.”

“These people were bewitched, there must be others who have invaded,” Hua Xianrui’s voice grew weaker, the blood from her chest seeping into the grass, causing the surrounding flowers and plants to flourish suddenly.

She collapsed, the flowers on her body gradually withering.

Luo Jinxiao felt her heart crumble. Someone so vibrant days ago was now suddenly dead before her.

“Don’t forget me,” Hua Xianrui whispered, her pupils dilating as her body transformed into a lotus flower, then melted into the earth.

It happened so quickly that in a daze, Luo Jinxiao’s arms were suddenly empty.

A life had silently vanished from this world without a sound.

Luo Jinxiao sniffled, then transformed into a beam of light, soaring skyward and racing towards Tian Mountain like an arrow released from a bow.

Nothing could happen to Qu Weiyin.

They had just gotten married, they had bowed to heaven and earth as a couple. Luo Jinxiao hadn’t even had the chance to embrace her properly. Something absolutely could not happen to her.

She would go mad.

As she flew towards Tian Mountain, the scent of blood grew stronger. Human blood seemed to cover half the mountain peak.

These people were all dressed in black, with occasional sword wounds visible on their bodies, clearly inflicted by a sword.

Luo Jinxiao’s heart sank to the bottom of her stomach. She was getting closer and closer to the Clear Pool. By the pool stood a figure, her back to Luo Jinxiao. She was dressed in flowing red robes, her golden crown dislodged, and her black hair cascading down her back.

She was covered in blood, but it was all from others. Even her fair cheeks were splattered with blood, which, contrasted with her blood-red eyes, made her look like a demon from hell, a god of slaughter.

Demonic energy filled the mountain, withering all vegetation. The energy surged towards Luo Jinxiao, making even her feel dizzy and weak-kneed.

“Qu Weiyin,” Luo Jinxiao said slowly, approaching cautiously.

Qu Weiyin suddenly turned. Their eyes met, her expression cold, bloodthirsty, and merciless.

Luo Jinxiao felt as if she’d been doused with ice water.

Qu Weiyin raised her blood-stained sword, pointing it at Luo Jinxiao. Her eyes were emotionless, treating Luo Jinxiao like an enemy.

“You all deserve to die,” she said, slowly walking towards her.

Luo Jinxiao stood her ground, lowering her own sword.

“Qu Weiyin, it’s me,” she said softly.

What had happened? Had she killed all these people? How could this be... Luo Jinxiao felt the world spinning. In her daze, the Crescent Star Sword was already at her face.

Still, she didn’t resist.

She couldn’t believe Qu Weiyin would actually hurt her.

The pain of the sword piercing her flesh brought her back to reality. Luo Jinxiao staggered back, clutching her wound and looking up at Qu Weiyin in disbelief.

“Qu Weiyin,” she called out through gritted teeth. Qu Weiyin remained unmoved.

“Junior Shishu…” she choked out, tears in her voice.

Qu Weiyin suddenly froze, a flicker of panic in her eyes. Her sword clattered to the ground, and she turned, running towards the pool and leaping in.

The Clear Pool, which had been empty before, was now filled to the brim with spring water, seemingly overnight. Qu Weiyin’s red robes disappeared beneath the surface, creating ripples that quickly subsided.

She seemed determined to die, offering no resistance.

“Qu Weiyin!” Luo Jinxiao screamed. Without hesitation, she jumped into the water after her. Warmed by the sun, the water was pleasantly warm and clear. Sunlight streamed through the surface, creating shimmering patterns.

Her skirt and hair floated around her like delicate butterflies, swaying with the current.

Qu Weiyin’s figure sank towards the bottom of the pool. Luo Jinxiao swam desperately, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t reach Qu Weiyin’s robes, which drifted further and further away.

Underwater, Luo Jinxiao couldn’t shout or cry. She pushed forward with all her might, but her vision blurred.

Silent despair enveloped her, a feeling of suffocation rising within her. Suddenly, everything went black.

In her final moments, she saw someone swimming towards her from the depths of the pool. Someone had been underwater all along.

Then, she lost consciousness.

Drip, drip, drip. The sound of water echoed from somewhere.

Luo Jinxiao slowly opened her eyes, her vision gradually coming into focus.

She coughed up water.

She seemed to be lying on the ground, a high dome above her, glittering with sunlight.

As Luo Jinxiao slowly sat up, she realized it wasn’t sunlight, but a ceiling full of enormous night pearls.

“Qu Weiyin…” she murmured, then suddenly stood up. As she turned to look around, a giant snake startled her.

She stumbled back, realizing that it was a long chain of snake corpses, seemingly dead for a long time, leaving only dried-out skins.

Suddenly, she realized where she was. Memories flooded her mind. This was the Celestial Realm, the place she and Qu Weiyin had visited together. And this giant snake was Zhu Jiuyin, the creature they had killed together.

Why was she here? Where was Qu Weiyin?

As Luo Jinxiao turned around, a tall figure stood behind her. Startled, she quickly stepped back, warily eyeing the person.

“You again?” she frowned. It was the eight-foot-tall woman. “Did you knock me out?”

“I Did,” the woman replied, her voice aged.

Luo Jinxiao stepped forward angrily. “Where’s Qu Weiyin? Why did you bring me here?”

“Forget about her,” the woman said.

“How can I forget about her!” Luo Jinxiao snapped, trying to push past.

However, the woman silently blocked her path once more, shaking her head. “She has completely succumbed to demonic cultivation. By now, she should have entered the demon realm and become the Demon Lord. If you go out and find her, she will kill you without hesitation.”

“I still have to go,” Luo Jinxiao refused to listen, drawing her sword and attempting to get around her. “Get out of my way, or I’ll kill you.”

“If you go out now, not only will she kill you, but she will also die later!” the woman suddenly raised her voice, stopping Luo Jinxiao in her tracks.

“What did you say?” she asked in astonishment.

The woman in black robes slowly turned, sighing heavily. “You need to find yourself, to deal with the one who is causing chaos in the world. Only then can you possibly stop all of this. Neither gods nor immortals are the masters of this world. The death of all beings is the punishment of heaven and earth.”

Luo Jinxiao was confused by her words, yet she had a feeling that the woman wasn’t lying.

Luo Jinxiao turned and looked at her for a moment, then suddenly asked, “How can I trust you?”

The woman stood still, and a silver light flashed around her body. Her black robes seemed to billow outwards.

The hood covering her face fell back, and Luo Jinxiao’s eyes widened in shock. The face was all too familiar.

It was Luo Ning!
