CHAPTER 10: Cooperate a Bit

A sudden gust of wind rattled the windows, the panes creaking despite the securely fastened latch.
Ji Lingyue’s panted heavily, listening to the howling wind as her senses slowly returned.
“Lan Wu…” she called softly.
“Hmm?” Lan Wu’s warm breath tickled her ear, her body a comforting weight pressed against Ji Lingyue’s back. One hand remained splayed possessively on Ji Lingyue’s stomach, soothingly caressing her smooth skin.
Ji Lingyue bit her lip, overwhelmed by a belated wave of shyness. The sticky wetness between her legs was clear evidence of their recent activities.
“I… mmm…” She tilted her head back, her thighs trembling as a rush of heat flowed out, coating Lan Wu’s slender fingers.
Lan Wu’s hand tightened on Ji Lingyue’s hip, her other hand moving instinctively to part sensitive folds. Her fingertips rubbed against the slit, brushing against the sensitive clit.
“What is it?” she asked softly, her teeth gently nibbling on Ji Lingyue’s ear as her movements grew gentler.
Still sensitive from her climax, Ji Lingyue gripped the sheets tightly, biting back a moan.
In a trembling voice, she moaned, “No more…”
Lan Wu paused, hesitantly looking at the trembling, slender back beneath her. “Does it still hurt?” she asked softly.
Ji Lingyue simply pressed her lips together, offering no reply.
A moment passed, and Lan Wu felt the heat of Ji Lingyue’s body relax against hers. The sensitive flesh beneath her hand pulsed once, a silent plea for more, before falling still.
Lan Wu blinked in surprise, then giggled. “Why are you so shy?”
“Isn’t it… isn’t it normal to be shy about… this?” Ji Lingyue instinctively protested.
“That’s not what I meant,” Lan Wu said, sliding her fingers along the slick folds. “We’ve already done this before. And besides, I’m just helping you. You don’t need to be so tense.”
Ji Lingyue’s breath hitched. She tried to turn, to look at Lan Wu, but a sharp gasp escaped her lips as Lan Wu’s honey-coated finger pushed inside her.
The sudden fullness almost made Ji Lingyue cry out in surprise. She arched instinctively, the walls of her inner walls tightly gripping Lan Wu’s fingers, coating them with slippery wetness.
Lan Wu’s free left hand wrapped around to her front, carefully supporting her to keep her comfortable.
Ji Lingyue’s eyelids fluttered closed, her lashes damp with unshed tears. “Lan Wu…” she breathed.
“What is it?”
“What… what was it you wanted to tell me earlier?”
Lan Wu hesitated, her hand absently stroking Ji Lingyue’s stomach. “It’s nothing,” she finally replied, “I just thought…well, I have nowhere else to go. Perhaps…perhaps I could go to Haochen Mountain with you.”
She couldn’t just abandon Ji Lingyue now.
Ji Lingyue froze for a moment, seemingly understanding something. She turned her head and glanced at Lan Wu, her dark eyes misty with desire but still pure and innocent.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
Lan Wu stared at her, caught off guard by the sincerity in her voice.
Ji Lingyue was so humble, seemingly oblivious to her own sacrifice in saving Lan Wu, yet overflowing with gratitude for Lan Wu’s reciprocation.
Even though she deserved it anyway.
“You really are…” Lan Wu sighed, a hint of exasperation in her voice. “I really don’t understand you. You’re so ruthless with demons, yet…”
Ji Lingyue blinked, a flicker of confusion crossing her eyes. “Hmm?”
“Never mind,” Lan Wu lowered her head and said gently, “Let’s start early tomorrow. The sooner we reach Haochen Mountain, the sooner we might find a powerful master to help cure the poison.”
Ji Lingyue shivered as Lan Wu’s cool hair brushed against her shoulder. A moment of distraction passed before she registered Lan Wu’s words. By then, the fingers inside her had begun to move, a slow, rhythmic glide that sent a jolt of pleasure through her.
Ji Lingyue let out a soft moan as Lan Wu’s gentle voice reached her ears, “Ah Ji, relax a little. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can rest.”
She bit her lip, then whispered after a moment, “Ah Yue…”
“Hmm?”
“It’s Ah Yue,” Ji Lingyue clarified, her fingers tightening on the sheets. “That’s… what people in my village call me…”
Lan Wu chuckled softly. “Alright, Ah Yue. Try not to squeeze so tight. I can hardly move.”
Ji Lingyue suddenly stiffened, the blush instantly spreading down her neck. She shot Lan Wu a reproachful glare, but meeting the girl’s smiling gaze, her face burned hotter and she quickly looked away, burying her head in the pillow.
“Ah Yue?”
Ji Lingyue squeezed her eyes shut. Being called by name in such a gentle manner made her tremble more. After a moment, she slowly parted her legs, offering herself to Lan Wu’s touch. The sticky nectar slowly trickled down Lan Wu’s pale fingers, coating her slender wrist with a layer of glistening wetness.
“Mmm…” A soft whimper escaped her lips. “Be… be gentle…”
After being open with each other, their relationship became much more natural, falling into a routine of traveling by day and making love at night. Though Ji Lingyue remained shy in bed, she grew increasingly affectionate with Lan Wu in daily life.
A month later, they finally crossed the border into the Northern Region, the northernmost part of the Xuan Yuan Continent.
The Northern Region clearly lived up to its reputation as the coldest region of the Xuan Yuan Continent. Even in the height of summer, Lan Wu shivered upon entering Jixue City.
Looking up, she saw endless snow-capped peaks stretching into the clouds, seeming to touch the heavens themselves.
“That’s Haochen Mountain,” Ji Lingyue said, a hint of longing in her usually calm voice.
Lan Wu hugged herself, grimacing. “It’s freezing!” she complained.
Having grown up in the perpetually warm climate of Kunlun Sea in the south, she had rarely experienced cold like this.
Seeing her discomfort, Ji Lingyue thought Lan Wu rather delicate, but still looked around until she found a stall selling winter clothes and pulled Lan Wu over it.
After buying clothes for both of them, their remaining money had dwindled significantly. They discussed their options and decided to find an inn for the night, planning to start early tomorrow and hopefully reach the foot of the mountain by nightfall.
It took them quite a while to find an inn with vacancies. According to the innkeeper, it was the time for Haochen Mountain’s disciple recruitment, which occurs every five years. People from all over the Xuan Yuan Continent had flocked to the area, hoping for a chance to join the prestigious sect. They were lucky to even get a room, he said, as it had just been vacated by someone who had been unsuccessful in joining the sect.
Lan Wu learned that, unlike Yunxiao Pavilion and Jintang Palace, which valued lineage and status and admitted only a select few, Haochen Mountain was the only sect that accepted anyone with cultivation potential. Those with exceptional talent could enter the inner sect for careful instruction, while those with average potential could join the outer sect and, with hard work, might one day be selected for the inner sect. However, those with no talent at all, even if they were royalty or nobility, would be turned away without a second thought.
Besides the three major sects, there used to be a secluded Penglai Island, but a little over a year ago on New Year’s Eve, Penglai Island suffered a demon attack. Overnight, the entire sect became a sea of blood and corpses. It hasn’t recovered since, let alone recruited new disciples.
Looking out at the streets of Jixue City, Lan Wu saw many hopefuls. Those accepted were few, while those rejected were numerous. She saw many young people with dejected faces and even middle-aged men and women crying bitterly.
She couldn’t help but wonder if Ji Lingyue had any talent for cultivation.
Ji Lingyue, however, seemed unfazed. After a quiet dinner, she excused herself to their room.
Lan Wu stayed downstairs a bit longer and asked for two buckets of hot water from the attendant. When she entered their room, a figure approached her in the darkness.
Lan Wu quickly recognized who it was and instinctively supported her waist. Ji Lingyue nestled uncomfortably in her embrace, making soft sounds of distress. Her gray soft cotton clothes were wrinkled all over, with pink nipples occasionally peeking through.
Lan Wu understood and lifted her up. The girl expertly wrapped her arms around Lan Wu’s neck and settled onto her arms. But Lan Wu froze, noticing Ji Lingyue’s butt were wet and slippery, and she wasn’t wearing any pants.
She blinked and looked up to see Ji Lingyue’s tear-filled eyes, feeling a moment of dazed confusion.
“Ah Yue…” she called softly, not knowing what to say. After a moment, she sighed and kissed the tears at the corner of Ji Lingyue’s eyes.
After their passions had subsided, Lan Wu helped her bathe in the hot water. Ji Lingyue was always exhausted afterward, soon falling asleep wrapped in blankets.
Lan Wu lay beside her but couldn’t sleep.
After all, she was a little demon about to enter a place where humans cultivated and hunted demons—quite a nerve-wracking situation. Even by midnight she remained wide awake.
Then the person beside her turned over, resting her head against Lan Wu’s shoulder.
Lan Wu froze, carefully turning to look. The girl slept deeply but curled up tightly, clutching Lan Wu’s arm as if seeking security.
Lan Wu blinked and breathed softly, her gaze tracing the delicate contours of Ji Lingyue’s features. She increasingly felt that Ji Lingyue would grow into a beautiful woman in the future.
