CHAPTER 71: Chance Encounter

For days, the rain poured relentlessly.

Ji Lingyue rested lazily in Lan Wu’s embrace, their naked skin pressed together, still radiating a lingering warmth. She reached out and poked Lan Wu’s smooth cheek in a husky voice, “When we get back to Haochen Mountain, you’ll need to change your appearance. A mask won’t fool Master and the others.”

Lan Wu caught her wandering hand and nodded knowingly, “Okay.”

Ji Lingyue continued, “After you escaped, Haochen Mountain added another layer to its barrier. Demons can’t disguise themselves or enter anymore, except for contracted demon beasts.”

“I see.”

Growing drowsy, Ji Lingyue’s eyes fluttered as she yawned, “We won’t be staying at Haochen Mountain for long. In about half a month, it’ll be the Immortal Sect Competition. Then, we’ll go to Yunxiao Pavilion in Yao Mountain together. As long as you stay by my side, no one will discover your identity.”

Lan Wu hummed in agreement, idly playing with the ends of her hair. When she looked down again, she saw that Ji Lingyue’s breathing had deepened, and she had fallen asleep. Her heart softened. She pulled the blanket over their shoulders, turned on her side, and pressed her cheek against Ji Lingyue’s soft hair, closing her eyes, ready for a good sleep.

In the middle of the night, the sound of rain was suddenly joined by thunder and lightning. Because they were flying in the air, the booming sounds were almost deafening. Lan Wu stirred at the noise, drowsily listening for a moment. She was about to embrace Ji Lingyue and return to sleep when she heard distant voices outside.

Frowning, she used spirit communication to ask Xiao Niu to investigate. The nightmare beast, woken from its dream, didn’t complain and obediently went out to investigate. It returned with a message shortly after, “There are four cultivators outside the flying ship wearing Haochen Mountain robes.”

Startled, she woke Ji Lingyue to tell her. Still heavy with sleep, Ji Lingyue responded lazily, “They’re probably fellow disciples who want a ride back. My flying ship has the Haochen Mountain seal, they recognize it.”

“Should we let them in?”

Ji Lingyue hummed, “Go let them in, but don’t disturb me.”

With that, she turned over, burying her head under the covers. Lan Wu had no choice but to put on her clothes and mask. As she stepped outside, she heard someone say, “It’s strange, why isn’t Junior Sister answering?”

Her heart skipped a beat. She looked up and saw that the person standing on a flying sword outside the boat was none other than Meng Changge. The once-famous Red Blade Immortal was now a mid-stage Great Ascension cultivator. The world had given her the title of the Crimson Yama for her ruthless demon-slaying. Compared to before, she now had a faint scar running from her right eyebrow to her temple, adding to her fierce demeanor.

Lan Wu froze, hesitating whether to retreat and find Ji Lingyue. Meng Changge noticed her, her expression changed, and her voice suddenly turned cold, “A demon?”

As she spoke, she drew a sharp, red blade, its surface as fiery as blood. It looked as if she was about to break through the barrier. The junior disciples behind her, soaked to the bone, also changed their expressions and drew their weapons.

Seeing the situation deteriorate, Lan Wu quickly stepped forward, “I am Ji Lingyue’s contracted beast. I was ordered by her to open the barrier. If you don’t believe me…” She gently touched her forehead, and a golden lotus slowly emerged from her pale skin, flickering faintly, “This is proof.”

Meng Changge narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing her. After a while, she sheathed her blade, “I never expected my junior sister to contract a demon beast. How surprising.”

Seeing Lan Wu open the barrier, she stepped inside with her companions, asking, “Why are you opening the barrier? Where is my junior sister?”

Lan Wu replied, “She is resting.”

“Is that so?” Meng Changge glanced at her suspiciously and strode towards the cabin, “I’ll go see her.”

Lan Wu’s heart leaped. Ji Lingyue’s current state of post-sex disarray was not something she wanted outsiders to see. She quickly blocked the doorway, forcing a polite smile, “My master doesn’t want to be disturbed by others. Please don’t make things difficult for me, Immortal Master.”

Meng Changge frowned, “What do you mean by others? I’m her senior sister. What’s wrong with me going in?”

Lan Wu was at a loss for words, “If Immortal Master insists on seeing her, I can go in and inform her first…”

“No need. Why should you be allowed to enter freely while I cannot?” Meng Changge seemed annoyed, pushing Lan Wu aside. Lan Wu, despite being at the late-stage of the Body Integration stage, the push nearly made her stumble. Annoyed, she grabbed Meng Changge’s wrist, suppressing her temper, “Immortal Master, please don’t make things difficult for me.”

This seemed to pique Meng Changge’s interest. She turned back to look at Lan Wu, “You’re quite obedient, and bold. By the way, what kind of demon are you?”

Lan Wu hesitated, then said, “A silver carp.”

“A fish?” Meng Changge was slightly surprised. “It’s rare for a fish to cultivate to such a high level.”

As she spoke, she suddenly moved closer to Lan Wu and grabbed her mask. Lan Wu was startled and took two steps back, which was exactly what Meng Changge wanted. She easily removed the mask, revealing the face that had been hastily transformed.

Lan Wu tensed, lowering her head, her silver hair falling like a waterfall, casting a shadow over her face.

“You’re quite beautiful.” Meng Changge frowned, touching her chin, “Have I seen you somewhere before?”

Lan Wu forced a smile, “Immortal Master is joking.”

“Is that so?” Meng Changge moved closer, forcing her against the railing of the boat, “Lift your head, let me get a good look at you.”

Lan Wu deeply regretted her choices. She should have let Meng Changge go in and see Ji Lingyue. Even if there was trouble, Ji Lingyue could handle it herself. Now, she had brought trouble upon herself, placing herself in a dangerous situation.

Hadn’t Ji Lingyue been woken up yet?

As if hearing her silent complaints, Ji Lingyue’s clear voice rang out, “Senior Sister, stop teasing her.”

Meng Changge blinked and turned to see Ji Lingyue standing in the doorway. Her face broke into a broad smile as she strode over, “Ah, my little junior sister finally appears! Two years apart, and you’ve grown even more beautiful!”

She then picked Ji Lingyue up and spun her around several times.

With everyone staring, Ji Lingyue couldn’t help but blush, though her face remained outwardly calm, “Senior Sister, put me down!”

“Alright, alright.” Meng Changge laughed and put Ji Lingyue down. She was half a head taller than Lan Wu. Standing next to her, Ji Lingyue, who was usually considered tall, appeared small and delicate. She took the mask from Meng Changge’s hand, walked over to Lan Wu, and helped her put it back on before asking, “Why are you back, Senior Sister?”

Meng Changge’s attention naturally shifted, “Isn’t the Immortal Sect Competition coming up soon? I heard Gu Changli plans to participate, so my mother wrote and asked me to keep an eye on him. On the way back, I happened to run into these junior disciples, and then this terrible weather suddenly appeared. Luckily, I saw your flying ship. What a coincidence!”
