Chapter 10: Assistance

Luo Jinxiao froze for a moment, blinking as if she hadn’t quite processed what had just happened.

Qu Weiyin, however, gazed upwards with an unreadable expression, thinking to herself, These fluffy eyelashes, I wonder what they would feel like if I pulled on them.

When she decided to do something, she never hesitated. So, she reached out and gave them a good pull.

“Ow!” Luo Jinxiao yelped, pulling her hand back and t stepping back quickly, putting as much distance as possible between herself and Qu Weiyinโ€™s grasp.

โ€œUh, itโ€™s all good now,โ€ she stammered, her heart pounding. Thank the heavens the Demon Lord didnโ€™t get angry at her for touching her, she thought, or I’d really be in trouble now.

Qu Weiyin looked at her fingers and then steadied herself, her gaze returning to Luo Jinxiao with a hint of curiosity.

Luo Jinxiao kept her head bowed, feeling like she was sitting on pins and needles under her gaze. She desperately wished for time to pass faster. All she wanted was to go back to sweeping the floors.

โ€œIt seems you know about the Gu inside me,โ€ Qu Weiyin said, tilting her head slightly. She extended a hand, slightly cold due to her discomfort, and gently lifted Luo Jinxiao’s chin.

“Raise your head,” Qu Weiyin commanded, her voice cold.

Luo Jinxiao gritted her teeth and raised her head, but her eyes darted around nervously. She didn’t deny the accusation.

โ€œA worthless girl raised for over twenty years, yet you can detect such complex Gu techniques. Were you pretending all along?โ€ Qu Weiyin continued.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t cultivate, so I had to study something else to pass the time,โ€ Luo Jinxiao replied with a strained smile, trying her best to sound nonchalant.

“Even I haven’t figured out when it will flare up or how to completely suppress it. You certainly have a unique way of occupying your time,” Qu Weiyin mused, nodding slowly.

Luo Jinxiao nodded in agreement, maintaining her smile.

Inwardly, however, she was filled with questions. Qu Weiyin was a prominent member of the Qu family. How could someone have planted a Gu in her since childhood, and for it to remain undetected for so long?

But she was too afraid to ask.

“Enough. Get out,” Qu Weiyin said, seemingly tired of the conversation. She withdrew her hand and turned to walk back towards the window, leaning gracefully against the chaise longue.

She looked noble and elegant, her long, dark hair cascading down her back like a waterfall, with a hint of alluring charm.

Luo Jinxiao quickly averted her gaze, bowed respectfully, and practically bolted out the door.

A gust of wind slammed into her, whipping her hair across her face. She barely had time to react, grabbing onto the doorframe just as her body was about to be swept off her feet.

She looked down in shock, anger flaring. Who puts a house on the edge of a cliff?

Even if you wanted a good view, there’s no need to put the door right next to a cliff!

Luo Jinxiao took a deep breath and pulled herself back inside. She glanced back at Qu Weiyin, who was lying still with her eyes closed, seemingly asleep.

However, her brows were furrowed, as if she were having a nightmare.

Not wanting to disturb her, Luo Jinxiao turned to figure out her situation.

If this were her past self, she could easily cast a teleportation spell or summon her sword to fly away. But with her current level of cultivation, climbing down seemed more plausible.

The hundred-foot drop was truly terrifying.

As she hesitated, a voice came from behind. Someone placed a hand on her shoulder and whispered, โ€œCanโ€™t get down?โ€

Luo Jinxiao didn’t need to turn around to know it was the Demon Lord. The scent of her perfume was unmistakable.

She nodded awkwardly.

โ€œEven though your cultivation is low, you can still try flying with a sword,โ€ Qu Weiyin said, glancing down. โ€œThere’s a river below; you won’t die from the fall.โ€

“There are rocks in the river…” Luo Jinxiao mumbled, feeling deeply ashamed of her current state and wishing she could hide her head in her shoulders.

Seeing her reaction, Qu Weiyin couldnโ€™t help but let out a soft chuckle. She cleared her throat and asked, โ€œDo you have a sword?โ€

Luo Jinxiao shook her head.

โ€œTruly and completely useless,โ€ Qu Weiyin remarked, raising an eyebrow. Suddenly, she grabbed Luo Jinxiao by the collar and spun her around. Before Luo Jinxiao could react, she found herself standing behind Qu Weiyin.

Qu Weiyin’s sword was narrow, and Luo Jinxiao, unprepared, nearly slipped. Instinctively, she grabbed Qu Weiyin’s waist to steady herself.

Qu Weiyin had an incredible figure, her waist so slender it seemed unreal. As Luo Jinxiao held her, she couldnโ€™t help but notice how soft and delicate it felt.

A blush crept up Luo Jinxiaoโ€™s neck. She quickly averted her gaze, focusing instead on the back of Qu Weiyinโ€™s head. To distract herself, she started counting the hairpins in her hair.

After a while, she realized Qu Weiyin wasnโ€™t wearing any hairpins at all.

โ€œHad enough touching?โ€ Qu Weiyinโ€™s cold voice came from ahead, laced with a hint of threat. Luo Jinxiao quickly withdrew her hands and clasped them behind her back.

Flying with a sword was supposed to be fast, but Qu Weiyin deliberately slowed down.

Maybe sheโ€™s doing to help me adjust? Luo Jinxiao wondered, but quickly dismissed her shameless idea.

This was the Demon Lord, after all. The fact that she hadnโ€™t tossed her off the sword already was a mercy.

A gentle breeze blew, and a thin mist settled on her shoulders. Only then did Luo Jinxiao have a moment to take in the scenery. The mountains were green, the water was blue, the sky and water were one, and small boats floated on the misty mountain river below.

On one of the boats, she spotted several disciples dressed in white, sneaking out of sect to fish in the river.

It was a scene of such peace and tranquility, something she hadnโ€™t witnessed in a long time. It filled her with a sense of unexpected warmth.

Qu Weiyin glanced down, and with a flick of her wrist, the disciplesโ€™ boat flipped over, sending them and their catch tumbling into the water.

โ€œBreaking sect rules,โ€ Qu Weiyin stated matter-of-factly.

They arrived at Elder Liuโ€™s small courtyard. As soon as Luo Jinxiaoโ€™s feet touched the ground, she turned to thank Qu Weiyin, but the Demon Lord had already brushed past her and entered the courtyard.

Luo Jinxiao hurried after her. She watched as Qu Weiyin effortlessly immobilized the small puppets that came forward to block their path. With a familiarity that suggested she had been here before, Qu Weiyin reached the stone table in the center of the courtyard, gracefully swept her robes aside, and sat down.

โ€œWhere is Master Liuzhi?โ€ she asked.

Luo Jinxiao glanced towards the house. โ€œHe might be inside. He never comes out.โ€

โ€œNever comes out,โ€ Qu Weiyin repeated, tapping her fingers lightly on the table, lost in thought.

Before Luo Jinxiao could see what she was doing, a loud crash sounded, followed by a cloud of dust and the clatter of bricks tumbling to the ground. Instinctively, Luo Jinxiao raised her hand, shielding Qu Weiyin from a falling piece of wall.

But then she remembered that Qu Weiyin possessed an air of untouchable elegance. She didn’t need anyone’s protection. Embarrassed, Luo Jinxiao quickly lowered her hand.

A flicker of surprise crossed Qu Weiyinโ€™s eyes. She looked up at Luo Jinxiao for a moment, but said nothing.

The door swung open, and Elder Liu stormed out, his face full of anger. However, upon seeing Qu Weiyin, his anger quickly turned into resignation.

โ€œWhat are you doing here again, girl? I’ve had to repair this wall dozens of times, and I’m running out of bricks!”

โ€œYou’re not young anymore, yet you spend your days putting on airs of being above it all, pretending to live in seclusion like others, but you can’t even control your puppets properly,โ€ Qu Weiyin retorted, her words dripping with sarcasm.

Elder Liu opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

โ€œFine, fine, I can’t argue with you. Just tell me what you want,โ€ Elder Liu sighed, looking thoroughly worn out.

โ€œHer,โ€ Qu Weiyin said, tilting her chin towards Luo Jinxiao.

Elder Liu frowned as he glanced at Luo Jinxiao. โ€œI already agreed to keep her here. What more do you want?โ€

โ€œTeach her.โ€

โ€œHer spiritual root isโ€ฆ unique, and her spiritual energy is weak. How am I supposed to teach her? I haven’t taken a disciple in eight hundred years, and if I were to take one, it should be someone who can bring me honor. Someone like her, it’s impossible,” Elder Liu shook his head vigorously.

Luo Jinxiao blushed slightly at his words. Could they not leave her some dignity? After all, she was just a young girl with a very thin skin.

โ€œNot only will you teach her,โ€ Qu Weiyin stated, her voice firm and unwavering, โ€œyou will make her the strongest cultivator in the entire Wuhui Sect.โ€ Her expression was serious, leaving no room for doubt.

โ€œOtherwise,โ€ she continued, glancing around the courtyard, โ€œnot only will you be rebuilding walls, but Iโ€™m afraid this entire houseโ€ฆโ€ She lifted her hand threateningly.

โ€œWait!โ€ Elder Liu cried, rushing forward to protect his beloved courtyard.

โ€œGood,โ€ Qu Weiyin said briskly. โ€œIโ€™ll take that as a yes.โ€ She stood up and strode towards the door, leaving Luo Jinxiao looking bewildered behind her.

Why is she helping me? Luo Jinxiao wondered. Is she being kind? But Qu Weiyin didnโ€™t strike her as someone who would go out of her way for a complete stranger.

Before Luo Jinxiao could voice her confusion, Qu Weiyin suddenly turned back. With a swift, almost imperceptible movement, she pressed a finger to the back of Luo Jinxiaoโ€™s neck.

โ€œIf you fail to live up to my expectations,โ€ she warned, her voice low and menacing, โ€œyou will regret it.โ€

Luo Jinxiao quickly took a step back, and by the time she realized it, Qu Weiyin had already disappeared.

She reached up to touch her neck, her fingers brushing against smooth, unblemished skin. To her surprise, the injury she had received from Yan Ying was completely healed.

Thank you for updating so consistently! I’ve been reading all the series on here since The Dragon, and your quality and consistency are the best ones I’ve seen so far since I started reading translated fictions.
