Chapter 47: Hug
Seeing this, a hint of malice flashed across Yu Gui’s pale eyes. He put his hand into his sleeve, as if about to take something out.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t notice. At this moment, a short figure suddenly appeared behind her, a fierce and harsh turbid aura gushing out. Yu Gui’s pupils shrank, and his entire body flew backward, crashing into the wall.
He coughed weakly, vomiting a mouthful of blood. This, along with his pale skin, made him look like a ghost.
Hearing the commotion, Luo Jinxiao and Qu Weiyin turned their heads simultaneously. They saw that Qiongqi, who had been dazed just a moment ago, had transformed back into the shape of a tiger. It stood protectively in front of Luo Jinxiao, baring its fangs with a fierce gaze.
Her gaze landed on Yu Gui’s sleeve.
Yu Gui slowly raised his hand to wipe away the blood. He stared at Qiongqi in astonishment, his expression one of utter shock.
“Qiongqi…” he murmured. Then he looked at Qu Weiyin. After a moment, a smile unexpectedly appeared on his face.
However, when he looked at Luo Jinxiao again, the smile vanished.
Luo Jinxiao watched his series of actions, then looked at Qu Weiyin. A corner of her mind seemed to be lifted, and some speculations gradually became real.
Qu Weiyin suddenly stretched out her hand. The object in Yu Gui’s sleeve flew up, drawing an arc in the air before landing in her palm. It was a small bone whistle, emitting a faint, eerie light.
She turned her hand and gripped the bone whistle. When she raised her eyes again, her gaze was unfriendly.
“You, get out,” she said.
Luo Jinxiao knew that the “you” she was referring to was herself. However, she was still worried, so she grabbed Qu Weiyin’s sleeve with one hand, refusing to let go.
Qu Weiyin, unusually patient, didn’t scold her. Instead, she gently said, “It’s fine, don’t worry.”
She turned back, raised her hand, and gently wiped Luo Jinxiao’s face with her sleeve, wiping away the sweat from her forehead.
This action seemed rather gentle.
Luo Jinxiao felt a twinge in her heart and found herself walking out the door. By the time she realized, she was already standing outside the door, able to only peek inside through the paper windows, seeing only hazy shadows.
Luo Jinxiao tried to poke a small hole in the door. However, as soon as her finger stretched out, it was bounced back by spiritual force. She hugged her hand, feeling quite wronged.
What secret was Qu Weiyin hiding? If it was really as she thought, it would be too unbelievable.
But then she looked at herself. Not only had she transmigrated back two thousand years, but she had also encountered a person with the same body and name as her. Wasn’t that even more unbelievable?
Meanwhile, inside the room.
Qu Weiyin slowly approached Yu Gui. The bone whistle in her hand instantly turned into powder. The closer she got, the more Yu Gui’s lips trembled. Finally, he spoke, “Who is she?”
“None of your concern,” Qu Weiyin said indifferently.
“You’re protecting her.” Yu Gui couldn’t retreat any further and could only lean against the wall.
“Yes.” Qu Weiyin admitted freely, her eyes narrowing dangerously.
Yu Gui suddenly let out a self-deprecating sneer. He clutched his clothes tightly and said through gritted teeth, “You remember my name, so you must remember the past. But if you remember the past, how can you forget all the hatred!”
Qu Weiyin’s eyes flickered slightly. She paused for a moment before saying, “I haven’t forgotten. How can I forget such immense hatred?”
“Then why are you protecting this little girl! What’s so special about her that you would compromise to such an extent!” Yu Gui’s face contorted with rage, gritting his teeth. He steadied himself against the wall. “Could it be that you’ve given up our entire demon race for her?”
Hearing this, Qu Weiyin lightly rubbed her fingertips. After a long while, as if she had made up her mind, she nodded slightly.
“Ridiculous!” Yu Gui’s voice rose, as if he couldn’t believe what Qu Weiyin was saying. “You clearly said that you would never allow yourself to have any feelings for anyone. You said that dragons have reverse scales, and touching them will only bring harm. Have you forgotten, Demon Lord?”
It had been too long since Qu Weiyin had heard that title. Hearing it so suddenly, she felt a sense of time being distorted.
“I haven’t brought anything to the Demon Realm. If I’m not there in this life, you’ll have a Demon Lord even more powerful than me.” Qu Weiyin closed her eyes slightly. She had already stopped dwelling on this matter, but now that Yu Gui had brought it up, the feeling of struggle surged in her heart once more.
Everything from her past life flashed before her eyes.
“Impossible, how can you compromise with the righteous path? Have you really forgotten how they treated you, Demon Lord? I’ve been searching for you for so long, but with this crippled body, I couldn’t even leave the gates. Now I’ve finally found you, and you, like me, haven’t forgotten the past. What a great opportunity this is…”
“No, it’s different now.” Qu Weiyin said, her brow furrowed in pain.
“Is it because of her? Just because of this little girl? Can she make both of you change your minds?” Yu Gui’s expression was somewhat crazed. He pointed at Qiongqi, clear tears flowing from his eyes and sliding down his almost transparent skin.
“You remember too, don’t you?” Yu Gui said loudly. Qiongqi bared its fangs even more, its claws digging into the ground as it let out a low growl.
Hearing this, Qu Weiyin looked at Qiongqi in surprise. She hadn’t expected that Qiongqi would also remember their past life.
Qiongqi didn’t look at Qu Weiyin. She always seemed to have a hint of aloofness towards her. Qu Weiyin suddenly understood why there was this subtle aloofness and initial hostility. It was because in her past life, she had only treated Qiongqi as a mount.
Guilt welled up in her heart.
Tears streamed down Yu Gui’s face, his eyes filled with heartache. He gritted his teeth and said, “If that girl dies, would the Demon Lord return? I would still obey your every command like in my past life. I am your only confidant. We can return to the Demon Realm together and kill all those who humiliated you, who opposed you, leaving no one alive.”
Qu Weiyin’s eyes suddenly changed, her gaze becoming cold and hard. She stepped forward, grabbed his collar, and said coldly, “I can’t go back. I won’t touch you now, but if you lay a finger on her, I will instantly obliterate your soul.”
“We are not confidants. I, Qu Weiyin, have never had a confidant.” Her attitude was heartlessly indifferent.
“She is my reverse scale. You can’t touch her,” Qu Weiyin said.
Yu Gui’s body seemed to go limp. When Qu Weiyin let go, he slid down the wall.
“Where are the people from Wuhui Sect?” Qu Weiyin asked coldly.
Yu Gui remained silent for a while before replying, “After I fought them, the people from the Demon Realm took them away.”
“Was it also you who harmed the villagers?”
“It was Ah Chou. He’s cultivating the Netherworld Diagram and needs people for sacrifices.”
“He’s been reborn too?” The furrow in Qu Weiyin’s brow deepened.
“No, I found him and gave him the Netherworld Diagram. If you had allowed us to cultivate it in our past life, we wouldn’t have been hunted down by those righteous sects.” Yu Gui gritted his teeth.
Qu Weiyin clenched her fists, but in the end, she didn’t say anything. She nodded silently, turned, and walked out the door, nearly bumping into Luo Jinxiao, who was eavesdropping at the door.
“Junior Shishu!” Seeing that she had finally come out, Luo Jinxiao couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. She stepped forward, grabbed Qu Weiyin’s arm, and reached out to check if her pupils had turned red.
Qu Weiyin frowned and impatiently swatted her hand away, giving her a slap on the head.
“Stop touching me.”
Luo Jinxiao covered her head and looked inside. “I was so worried. What if you were bewitched by him again? Shouldn’t we tie him up?”
A flicker of unbearable emotion crossed Qu Weiyin’s eyes. She hesitated for a moment, but ultimately, out of consideration for their past relationship, she said, “No, let him be.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to Junior Shishu.” Luo Jinxiao smiled, her dimples deepening.
Inside the room, Qiongqi glanced at Yu Gui a few more times. Yu Gui reached out to touch her raised tail, but she dodged.
“You too? In our past life, I was the one who raised you,” Yu Gui said with a bitter smile.
Qiongqi lowered her round eyes, then dashed out the door. She circled Luo Jinxiao’s legs like a giant golden cat, rubbing against them and humming.
Luo Jinxiao looked at her, her eyes flickering slightly. She smiled softly and bent down, struggling to lift Qiongqi into her arms. She stood up awkwardly, looking like she was holding a fat pig.
“You’re so heavy. Junior Shishu, where are we going?” she asked, looking up.
“The Demon Realm,” Qu Weiyin said, glancing at Qiongqi. She thought to herself that she looked better in this form than in her human form. At least it wasn’t as awkward and annoying to look at.
Qiongqi stuck out her tongue and licked Luo Jinxiao’s nose.
Qu Weiyin frowned. It was still very annoying.
She turned and strode downstairs. Luo Jinxiao hurried after her, but as they passed the stairs, she looked back at the door again. Inside, Yu Gui was being helped up by the rabbit demon called Yaoyao.
Their eyes met. Yu Gui’s eyes were deep, his emotions unreadable, but the look in them sent chills down her spine.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t back down. She looked him up and down, her smile fading. Her mind raced, and the hostility between them crackled in the air.
It wasn’t until they were finally out of the Piaoxiang Courtyard that Luo Jinxiao relaxed her serious expression. She walked in front of Qu Weiyin, smiling, and bent down to look at her face.
“Junior Shishu, is the Demon Realm far from here?”
“Very close.”
The entrance to the Demon Realm was a secret to outsiders. Luo Jinxiao had never heard of it, only that it was heavily guarded and no one but those from the Demon Realm could enter. This was why, despite the Demon Realm’s weakened state, it had never been destroyed.
She concealed the emotions in her eyes, thinking that if Qu Weiyin didn’t want to talk about it, she wouldn’t ask.
So, she smiled brightly again. “Junior Shishu, now that we know where they are, are you happier?”
Qu Weiyin pushed her away impatiently and frowned. “You’re noisy.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Luo Jinxiao suddenly stretched out her arms, slipped past her side, and pulled her into a tight hug.
She used a bit too much force. Qu Weiyin’s chin hit her shoulder, the sharp bone making her frown slightly. However, she didn’t pull away.
She didn’t know if it was because she was too shocked or because deep down, she didn’t want to.
“What are you doing?” Qu Weiyin tried to sound cold, but her hands were already clenched tightly. Everywhere Luo Jinxiao touched her, she felt a tingling sensation.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t know why she did it either. She just felt that the best way to comfort someone was to hug them, just like she had done in the Upper Celestial Realm before.
“Junior Shishu, no matter what happens, I’ll be by your side. You’ll always be the best person I’ve ever met,” Luo Jinxiao whispered.
If her guess was correct, she should be staying far away from Qu Weiyin. After all, she was the Demon Lord who had unleashed chaos upon the six realms.
But now, she thought that even if Qu Weiyin was a demon, there had to be more to the story. How could someone so kind kill so ruthlessly?
Maybe she was being naive, but she didn’t think she shouldn’t be.
Qu Weiyin snorted but didn’t say anything. She suddenly found herself hoping that the hug would last a little longer. The cool breeze blew, but the places where the girl touched her were so warm.
This feeling, warm and slightly dizzying, was quite strange.
But the hug ended too quickly. Luo Jinxiao stepped back, blushing and scratching her head, “Let’s go, Junior Shishu.”
