Chapter 90: Wedding
Qu Weiyin stared at her for a moment, then flicked her forehead with a laugh. “What would I do with her? She costs a fortune to feed! Put her away. I just wanted to give you this jade pendant.”
Luo Jinxiao rubbed her forehead and tucked Qiongqi back into her pouch. “Did you hear that? Eat less from now on,” she scolded the soundly sleeping beast.
Once the rain stopped and the sun peeked through the clouds, they called for Yan Ying and Luo Ning and went to bid farewell to Hua Xianrui.
“What? You’re leaving so soon?” Hua Xianrui exclaimed, floating into the air. “Won’t you stay a few more days?”
“We came here for the Tian Mountain Clear Pool. Now that it’s gone, we shouldn’t impose on your hospitality any longer,” Qu Weiyin replied.
Hua Xianrui looked at Luo Jinxiao with a regretful and longing gaze.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t dare to look up and took a few steps back, hiding behind Luo Ning.
“Alright, but you must come visit me again in the future,” Hua Xianrui said, waving her arm adorned with a bracelet that released a shower of flower petals.
“Definitely,” Qu Weiyin nodded, then turned to leave. “We won’t be back,” she muttered under her breath.
Luo Jinxiao and the others bowed their farewells. Hua Xianrui gazed at Luo Jinxiao with lingering affection. “Don’t forget about me when you go back!”
Luo Jinxiao smiled and followed Qu Weiyin.
Yan Ying hurried to Luo Jinxiao’s side, asking excitedly. “Were you serious just now? Are you really going to marry Junior Shishu Qu?”
“I’m impressed,” she added, her voice laced with envy.
“Of course,” Luo Jinxiao replied smugly, swaying her head from side to side, in high spirits.
However, as she turned, she met Luo Ning’s gaze. Luo Ning didn’t say anything but simply looked away.
Luo Jinxiao approached her, unsure how to start the conversation. Finally, Luo Ning spoke first. “Don’t worry about me, Sister. As long as you’re happy.”
“I don’t want to interfere with any of your choices,” she added for some reason.
As they left the demon realm and prepared to fly on their swords, they saw a demonic wind in the distance, flattening trees and flowers. Flashes of blades occasionally appeared, moving westward.
“What’s going on?” Luo Jinxiao instinctively drew Wujue.
Qu Weiyin shielded her eyes with her hand, frowning as she observed the scene. “It’s the Shengsi Sect again. What are they doing here?”
“Could they be following us?” Yan Ying interjected.
Qu Weiyin shook her head. “No, I would have sensed them if they were following us. There must be another reason. It looks like they’re chasing something.”
Luo Jinxiao had a bad feeling about the Shengsi Sect and suggested they investigate. The others agreed.
As they drew closer, they sensed a faint demonic aura. A group of men in black were pursuing a shadowy figure, their weapons clashing incessantly.
They seemed to be hunting a demon. The demon they were chasing was dressed in tattered clothes, looking like they had just escaped from somewhere, their strength nearly depleted, barely able to dodge and flee.
“Jinxiao, I think that demon looks familiar,” Qu Weiyin said suddenly. She stepped forward, took the yellow paper packet containing Xiu’er from Luo Jinxiao’s sleeve, and held it up.
As expected, Xiu’er, sensing the demon’s aura, began to thrash wildly, almost tearing through the paper.
Without hesitation, Qu Weiyin tossed the packet back to Luo Jinxiao and transformed into a streak of light, appearing among the men in an instant. The Shengsi Sect, caught off guard, scattered in disarray.
Qu Weiyin shielded the tree demon, deflecting an attack aimed at her.
Luo Jinxiao, not daring to let Qu Weiyin fight alone, followed closely. Wujue swept across the ground, instantly flattening the grass. The air current forced over a dozen people back several meters, leaving them in disarray when they regained their footing.
The Shengsi Sect, furious at the interruption, was about to shout when they recognized Luo Jinxiao’s face and fell silent.
After all, Luo Jinxiao’s feat of repelling the demons had spread throughout the four seas and eight wildernesses.
The sect members exchanged glances before one stepped forward, speaking as gently as possible. “Fellow immortal friends, we are disciples of the Shengsi Sect. We are merely out here for training and happened to encounter this demon. We are trying to eliminate it.”
“I believe you all can recognize a demon, right?” he added.
“Do us a favor and spare her life,” Luo Jinxiao said cautiously.
The man was about to speak again when someone whispered something in his ear. He then noticed Qu Weiyin, his eyes widening in shock as he stumbled backward.
“It’s a demon!” he shouted, quickly drawing his weapon and pointing it at Qu Weiyin. Luo Jinxiao instinctively shielded Qu Weiyin with her body.
“Demons are bloodthirsty and cruel! How can Immortal Luo side with a demon? Are you defying us? Are you trying to defy the entire immortal realm?!” He brandished a black sword, eyeing them fiercely.
Yet, wary of Luo Jinxiao’s power, they dared not approach.
Sensing Qu Weiyin’s anger, Luo Jinxiao tensed, fearing she might lose control. She quickly told Luo Ning, “Hold her back,” before darting towards the the Shengsi Sect disciples.
This group of disciples had low cultivation levels. Even though Luo Jinxiao had no intention of harming them, they were no match for her. Within a few moves, they were all lying on the ground, clutching their chests and groaning in pain, unable to get up. They no longer dared to mention slaying demons, only wanting to flee as fast as they could.
“You wouldn’t listen when I tried to reason with you. You had to spout nonsense and overestimate your abilities,” Luo Jinxiao said, dismissing Wujue with a turn of her palm.
She turned to face Qu Weiyin, her voice softening. “Let’s leave. These people are strange. We should avoid getting involved with them again.”
Qu Weiyin nodded in agreement. They didn’t stop until the Shengsi Sect disciples were out of sight.
The tree demon swayed unsteadily, struggling to regain her balance. She looked up, her once vibrant green hair now withered and dry, her body emanating the scent of decaying wood.
She looked at Luo Jinxiao and Qu Weiyin with gratitude and astonishment, then bowed deeply, thanking them.
“What happened? Xiu’er can’t speak, so we can only guess. Why did you leave her?” Qu Weiyin asked.
“You’ve seen her? How is she? Is she safe?” The tree demon’s voice rose with urgency, her eyes brightening with hope.
“She’s fine now,” Luo Jinxiao said, placing the paper packet in her palm. A flash of white light, and the frail, delicate woman appeared, her face stained with tears. She rushed towards the tree demon.
The tree demon, overwhelmed with surprise and joy, embraced her tightly. They held each other, speechless, tears streaming down their faces.
Luo Jinxiao felt a twinge of emotion and looked at Qu Weiyin, meeting her gaze. In those blood-red eyes, she saw relief and empathy.
After a long moment, the tree demon lifted her head, laughing and crying at the same time. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” she said, her voice filled with shame.
“After I took Xiu’er away, we lived a peaceful life in seclusion in the mountains. But one day, a group of cultivators came to eliminate demons. I couldn’t fight against so many of them. Xiu’er stepped in to protect me and was seriously injured, nearly losing her life.”
“To save her, I gave her my core, but I was captured and imprisoned in a demon-sealing tower, I don’t know where.”
“For years, I tried to escape. Recently, I managed to flee using my remaining power. I searched everywhere for Xiu’er without success. Hearing that the demon realm sheltered homeless demons, I journeyed here, hoping to find her. I lingered nearby for days, unable to find the entrance. Today, those people found me, and I nearly died.”
“You’ve saved us twice. I don’t know how to repay you,” the tree demon said, her knees buckling. Qu Weiyin quickly caught her, preventing her from falling to the ground.
Qu Weiyin seemed deeply moved. She parted her lips slightly and said softly, “You don’t need to thank us. We are connected by fate. It was just a small effort.”
The tree demon wiped away her tears and looked at Xiu’er with a mixture of tenderness and sorrow, gently smoothing her tangled hair.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. Xiu’er sobbed and clung to her tightly.
Uncomfortable with the emotional scene, Luo Jinxiao forced a smile and said reassuringly, “It’s a good thing you’ve found each other. The entrance to the demon realm is not far from here. Why don’t I escort you there?”
“Thank you, Immortal, that won’t be necessary,” the tree demon declined with a smile. “I’ve been living in a small hut in the mountains these days. If you don’t mind, you’re welcome to come and sit for a while.”
Xiu’er wiped her tears and grabbed the tree demon’s hand, turning to smile hopefully at Luo Jinxiao and the others.
“Alright,” Qu Weiyin agreed, her lips curving into a slight smile.
The hut wasn’t far away, just over a small hill. It seemed to have been unoccupied for a long time, with both the house and the yard empty and bare, but the tree demon had kept it spotlessly clean.
Inside, there were simple wooden tables and chairs, everything very rustic. From the back of the house, one could see a vast expanse of rolling hills stretching towards the horizon, merging with the sky.
“Please, have a seat,” the tree demon said shyly, adjusting the chairs. Once the four of them were seated, she took Xiu’er’s hand and said with a smile, “I want to pledge my eternal love to Xiu’er here, before heaven and earth.”
Luo Jinxiao gasped in surprise. “So suddenly?”
“When I was trapped in the demon-sealing tower, my longing for Xiu’er grew. I thought if I had expressed my feelings earlier, we might have avoided such regrets,” she explained, looking up with tears in her eyes. “Some things can’t be delayed. We might truly regret it later.”
Luo Jinxiao couldn’t help but glance at Qu Weiyin.
Yan Ying, sitting beside them, seemed even more excited than they were. She pointed at Luo Jinxiao and said, “They just mentioned planning to marry. Since you’re all here, why not perform the ceremony now and fulfill your wishes early?”
As she spoke, she cautiously glanced at Luo Ning, but only saw her indifferent profile, feeling a pang of disappointment.
Luo Jinxiao, hearing this, was also intrigued. She tugged at Qu Weiyin’s sleeve and whispered, “Why don’t we do as Yan Ying suggests?”
A faint blush appeared on Qu Weiyin’s cheeks, and she murmured in agreement.
“Wonderful!” Luo Jinxiao exclaimed, unable to contain her joy.
Everyone agreed enthusiastically. Although the setting was simple, they had everything they needed. The tree demon and Xiu’er immediately went out to hunt, hand in hand. Yan Ying and Luo Ning went to fetch water and do chores, leaving Luo Jinxiao and Qu Weiyin alone in the hut.
Luo Jinxiao still felt a sense of disbelief about what was about to happen. She let out a soft sigh.
“What’s wrong?” Qu Weiyin asked, standing up and gently brushing Luo Jinxiao’s cheek with her cool fingers.
Luo Jinxiao shook her head and smiled faintly. “I just find it unbelievable.”
This beautiful woman she loved would soon be truly bound to her for life.
Hearing this, Qu Weiyin pulled Luo Jinxiao up from her chair and said softly, “Me too. This is something I would have considered absurd and ridiculous before.”
She smiled, enchanting as both an immortal and a demon, her soft hands cupping Luo Jinxiao’s face, caressing it as if it were a treasure.
“I think the tree demon and Xiu’er are like us, hindered by many things. Seeing them makes me feel emotional,” Qu Weiyin said, her eyes shimmering. “I want to be with you forever.”
“Me too,” Luo Jinxiao whispered.
A day later, the hut was decorated with red silk cloths, simple, ordinary, yet festive.
The table outside was laden with offerings of fruit and roasted meat. Two red incense sticks released fragrant smoke, connecting heaven and earth.
Early in the morning, Yan Ying dressed Luo Jinxiao in a red wedding robe. Her hair, unstyled, was simply held in place with a hairpin. She rarely wore red, but it surprisingly complemented her fair skin, making her look even more radiant and beautiful.
Even Yan Ying, who rarely offered compliments, couldn’t find any fault with her appearance.
Luo Jinxiao was forbidden from seeing Qu Weiyin early, and she paced anxiously in the room, occasionally craning her neck to peek outside, wondering how Qu Weiyin was getting ready.
She must be beautiful, Luo Jinxiao thought.
I felt sad for you too, Yan Ying. Thank you for the chapter I always appreciate your hardwork!!!!
I believe Yan Ying will find happiness, maybe with Luo ning maybe not
