Chapter 93: Little Luo
The height of summer brought sticky, humid air. The sky was clear without a trace of cloud, and the vegetation below drooped, trying to escape the scorching sunlight.
Two women in white robes approached from the winding path. They didn’t seem to fear the sun, but they remained vigilant, as if worried something might suddenly jump out from the bushes.
The shorter woman carried a bundle in one hand and gripped a sword tightly in the other. The other woman, more elaborately dressed with a colorful peacock perched on her shoulder, led the way, holding a long braid.
“The sun is so bright today, there shouldn’t be any demons around,” Lu Fanzhi said, glancing around as they walked.
Yan Ying was about to reply when a black mist suddenly flashed past, parting the bushes. With lightning-fast reflexes, she flicked her whip, instantly splitting the demon seed in two.
Lu Fanzhi sighed in relief, patting her chest and complaining, “There are more and more demons lurking at the foot of the mountain lately. They’re not planning to attack Wuhui Sect again, are they?”
“Shut your mouth!” Yan Ying snapped. “If they attack again, we’ll all be in trouble. Qu… she has become the Demon Lord, and Luo Jinxiao has vanished without a trace. The spiritual energy in the mountains has been dwindling these days. If they attack again, we might not be able to withstand it.”
Lu Fanzhi sighed deeply, hugging the bag of spirit stones in her arms. These were hard-earned and meant for her disciples’ cultivation. She could not afford to lose them.
“Look out!” Yan Ying suddenly shouted. She darted forward, pushing Lu Fanzhi aside, and whipped her long whip around, repelling several approaching demons.
Lu Fanzhi’s cultivation wasn’t as strong as Yan Ying’s. Although she held a sword, she could only offer minimal assistance from the sidelines.
Yan Ying’s whip danced like the wind, forming a protective circle around her. Then, with her hands in the lotus position, golden lotuses rained down from the sky, exploding upon impact like firecrackers. The surrounding demons instantly dissolved into black smoke and dispersed.
“Wow, Lotus Steps, what level have you reached?” Lu Fanzhi exclaimed, her jaw dropping.
“Sixth level, I just advanced yesterday, what do you think?” Yan Ying grinned proudly.
“That’s amazing! But your whip is on fire,” Lu Fanzhi pointed at the smoking whip.
Yan Ying looked down and quickly extinguished the flames with a curse. Just then, more demons emerged from all directions, surrounding them.
“Will this ever end?!” Yan Ying yelled, charging back into the battle with her smoking whip.
Suddenly, a handsome man in blue robes descended from the sky on a cloud, scattering the demons. His voice was gentle as he urged them, “The Elder sent me to fetch you, let’s go!”
“Master!” Lu Fanzhi’s worries vanished as she happily rushed towards him, clutching her bag of spirit stones.
Nearby, Yan Ying killed another demon with her whip, sticking out her tongue and rolling her eyes.
With Gui Jiu’s help, dispelling the demons became much easier. The three quickly returned to the Wuhui Sect, stepping through the protective barrier and finally breathing a sigh of relief.
“Ke Tao, quickly deliver this to Elder He!” Lu Fanzhi called out to a passing disciple, shoving the bag of spirit stones into his hands.
“Yes, Senior Sister,” Ke Tao replied lazily, ambling towards the Wuhui Palace.
“There have been more demons nearby these past few days. Be more careful when you go out. Take more people with you to avoid being targeted by demons,” Gui Jiu reminded them meticulously.
“Understood,” Lu Fanzhi nodded.
“Senior Brother Gui Jiu, still no news of Luo Jinxiao and Luo Ning?” Yan Ying suddenly asked.
Gui Jiu shook his head, his expression regretful. “I’ve asked the disciples on patrol to keep an eye out, but it’s as if those two have vanished into thin air. Not a single piece of news.”
Yan Ying’s face fell slightly. She mumbled an “oh” and slumped her shoulders.
“Don’t worry, Yan Ying. Luo Jinxiao is so powerful, she’ll be fine. See, I’m not even worried,” Lu Fanzhi said, patting her shoulder reassuringly.
Yan Ying shrugged off her hand and snapped, “Who’s worried about her! I’m going to guard the barrier, you can stay here by yourself!”
With that, she stormed off angrily. Lu Fanzhi rubbed her head, looking hurt. “Master, she’s being mean to me.”
Gui Jiu blushed, unsure what to say. Just then, a faint glow streaked across the distant sky, followed by a muffled boom.
They both looked up, surprised.
Gui Jiu’s thick eyebrows furrowed as he murmured, “That seems to be the direction of the Upper Celestial Realm. What happened?”
Meanwhile, in the Upper Celestial Realm.
The long-silent divine hall suddenly shook as if its foundations had been disturbed. Luo Ning awoke with a start, looking around and dodging a falling night pearl.
“What’s happening, sister?” she muttered, then lunged forward to shield the sleeping Luo Jinxiao from a shard of the shattered night pearl.
“Why haven’t you woken up after all this time?” Luo Ning’s eyes were filled with panic. She didn’t dare move Luo Jinxiao, afraid of harming her.
However, the divine hall began to collapse for some unknown reason, threatening to bury them both.
Luo Ning gritted her teeth and summoned her divine power, attempting to repair the temple, but it was to no avail. Debris continued to fall, creating craters everywhere.
“No, we have to leave this place,” Luo Ning said to herself. She turned and carried Luo Jinxiao on her back, quickly running towards the exit. Her figure transformed into a flash of light as she rushed out of the hall.
The moment she reached the air of the Upper Celestial Realm, the ground suddenly collapsed, forming a huge, pitch-black hole. Dust and debris filled the air for miles around, and the temple and burial ground, which had existed for millions of years, returned to dust.
Luo Ning stood at the edge of a dense forest with Luo Jinxiao on her back, watching the rolling smoke with a hint of sorrow in her eyes.
Logically, Luo Jinxiao should have awakened long ago after three years of slumber. Why was she still unresponsive?
Luo Ning couldn’t help but feel afraid. With Luo Jinxiao on her back and the collapsed burial ground before her, a wave of helplessness washed over her.
The vastness of the world, the length of history, in this desolate space-time, where could she go? Luo Ning looked up at the eternally dark sky of the Upper Celestial Realm.
The thunderous rumbling continued for a full day and night. At noon the next day, a group of Wuhui Sect disciples stood on the White Jade Platform with their meals, gazing at the distant horizon.
“This place has been exploding all night. Could it be that some kind of Demon Lord has been born?” one disciple said, chewing on a bun.
“There aren’t that many Demon Lords,” the brothers Baili Xiao and Baili Qingzhou stood in a line. “It’d be great if there were. Let them fight it out. Maybe then the world would find peace.”
“What are you all crowding here for? Those who should be cultivating aren’t cultivating, those who should be eating aren’t in the dining hall. Are you waiting for the sky to fall?” Yan Ying stormed up the White Jade Platform with her whip. The observing disciples scattered at the sight of her.
Everyone knew Yan Ying had a bad temper, especially in recent years.
“Oh, be gentle. I’m also curious about what happened in the Upper Celestial Realm,” Lu Fanzhi followed her up the steps and stood at the edge of the White Jade Platform, looking up.
They stood for a while, then Lu Fanzhi’s voice suddenly changed. “Something’s not right. Look over there, is something flying towards us?”
“Where?” Yan Ying looked up but couldn’t see anything.
“It’s getting closer! Is it a demon? No, it’s breaking through the barrier! Get down!” Lu Fanzhi hurriedly pulled Yan Ying.
Yan Ying still couldn’t see it. She frowned and said, “Are you trying to trick me again?”
“You’re looking the wrong way!” Lu Fanzhi shouted.
She was still a bit slow. Yan Ying turned around just in time to see it, but it was too late to dodge. She was struck full-on by the person falling from the sky, screaming as she fell backwards onto the ground.
Lu Fanzhi froze in place.
Yan Ying nearly lost half her life from the impact. She groaned, then lifted her head and cursed hoarsely.
But when she saw the person’s face, she was stunned. Ignoring her pain, she quickly sat up, gently pushing the person on Luo Ning’s back aside and embracing Luo Ning.
“Luo Ning?” Her voice trembled slightly as she cupped Luo Ning’s face, trying to wake her.
After three years, Luo Ning had barely changed.
“Luo Ning!” Yan Ying raised her voice, a hint of tears in her voice.
Fortunately, the woman in her arms suddenly coughed and slowly woke up. She opened her dark eyes, her gaze flickering as she murmured, “Sister…”
Seeing her awake, Yan Ying was overcome with emotion. She grasped Luo Ning’s shoulders, helped her up, and said with a trembling voice, “You’re finally back. Where have you been these past three years?”
Nearby, Lu Fanzhi had just recovered from her shock. She quickly stepped forward to help Luo Jinxiao, who had been pushed face-down by Yan Ying.
“Luo Jinxiao!” Lu Fanzhi called out loudly, then looked up and said, “What’s going on? Quick, go find the Sect Leader!”
Only then did Yan Ying notice Luo Jinxiao. Shocked again, she quickly stood up, carrying Luo Ning on her back, and vanished in the blink of an eye.
After a short time, the Sect Leader’s bamboo hut was already crowded with people.
The flower garden outside the hut was also filled with curious disciples, craning their necks to see.
Inside the hut, Luo Jinxiao lay motionless on the bed. The few people facing her were lost in thought, silent.
After a long time, Lu Fanzhi finally spoke, “Sect Leader, is there really no way to wake her up?”
The Sect Leader gently shook her head, her silver hair cascading like moonlight. “She doesn’t seem hurt, just trapped in deep sleep. I would not dare use any spells on her. She has been asleep far too long, and if I make a wrong move, it could drive her mad.”
Everyone scratched their heads in unison.
“Elder Liu, do you have any ideas?” Elder He asked, stroking his beard.
Elder Liu, who had only recently regained consciousness and was still weak, his usually dark face now much paler, coughed a few times before speaking: “This elder thinks a good beating might do the trick.”
Elder He rolled his eyes.
“If only she were here, Luo Jinxiao would be bouncing around happily without a word,” Lu Fanzhi said from the side.
“Don’t talk nonsense!” Elder Liu frowned.
Everyone was once again at a loss.
Lu Fanzhi slowly approached Luo Jinxiao and whispered, “Why is her pouch moving?”
Hearing this, everyone’s eyes focused on the pouch hanging on Luo Jinxiao. Suddenly, a white light flashed, and a huge, skeletal Qiongqi appeared, plopping down on Luo Jinxiao’s chest.
Under its weight, Luo Jinxiao suddenly coughed violently, gasped, and her eyes widened.
She instinctively struggled, pushed the Qiongqi away, and sat up. Her legs went weak, and she almost fell to her knees. Luckily, a pair of slender, strong arms caught her. Luo Jinxiao’s mind was in a daze, but her heart was filled with overwhelming joy.
She abruptly looked up, only to see the Sect Leader’s face.
Luo Jinxiao froze, various memories suddenly intertwined in her mind, a chaotic mess.
She suddenly let out a painful groan, clutching her head as she knelt on the ground.
“Jinxiao!” Seeing this, several people rushed forward, but were stopped by the Sect Leader.
“Don’t move, she’s very fragile right now,” the Sect Leader whispered. She also knelt down, placed her hands on Luo Jinxiao’s shoulders, and said softly, “It’s alright, it’s alright, you’re back.”
The Sect Leader’s voice was ethereal and gentle, her hand cool to the touch, as if it had a calming effect.
The roaring in Luo Jinxiao’s head gradually faded. She slowly caught her breath, her vision alternating between a vast sea of clouds and a frozen snow-capped mountain, before finally settling.
Where was she? There seemed to be many people around, and they seemed familiar.
Where is Father God? Where is my sister?
No, she had died long ago. There was no Father God, and her entire clan was dead.
Then who was she?
“Luo Jinxiao,” the Sect Leader suddenly called her name.
Another set of memories surfaced in Luo Jinxiao’s mind – memories of her mortal life.
She suddenly grasped the Sect Leader’s hand and looked up. “Where’s the little meatball?”
She didn’t realize that her eyes were gloomy and her voice deep, startling even the Sect Leader, whose hand ached from Luo Jinxiao’s grip.
The Sect Leader looked at her and suddenly felt as if she had become a different person. The current Luo Jinxiao exuded an aura of loneliness and isolation, a state she had never wanted to see her in.
“No, not Meatball. Luo Ning, where is she?” Luo Jinxiao leaned forward as she spoke, nearly pushing the Sect Leader to the ground.
The Sect Leader was taken aback. She hesitated before answering, “She’s next door. She’s fine, just exhausted. She should be awake by now.”
Nearby, Lu Fanzhi tried to pull Luo Jinxiao away, but Luo Jinxiao instinctively waved her sleeve. A surge of energy burst forth, nearly throwing Lu Fanzhi out the window. She hit the wall hard, letting out a small scream.
“Little Lu!” Gui Jiu rushed forward to help her up, then turned to look at Luo Jinxiao in shock, seemingly unable to believe that she would actually hurt someone.
The elders exchanged glances, seeing confusion and surprise in each other’s eyes.
“You all should disperse for now. I suspect she must have gone through something and is therefore tired. Let her stay here and rest for a few days before we discuss this further,” the Sect Leader suddenly said. She gently pressed Luo Jinxiao’s hand. “Elders, please take the children away.”
Elder Liu gave Luo Jinxiao a worried look before obediently striding out. The crowd quickly dispersed, with Lu Fanzhi following Gui Jiu out of the bamboo hut, looking hurt.
Soon, only the Sect Leader and Luo Jinxiao remained in the room, along with the starving and listless Qiongqi.
Luo Jinxiao pressed her hand against her temple, tightly closing her eyes. Her grip on the Sect Leader’s wrist tightened. The Sect Leader let out a soft groan, but didn’t resist. Instead, she continued gently, “Luo Jinxiao, calm down.”
Luo Jinxiao suddenly realized something and quickly released her grip. Her eyes regained their clarity as she looked at the Sect Leader’s reddened arm.
She looked up and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
The Sect Leader finally breathed a sigh of relief, her tense heart relaxing as she sat down on the floor, her skirt spreading around her.
Luo Jinxiao felt a sense of complete confusion. She couldn’t tell whether she was the high and mighty War God Kui Xi from millions of years ago or the ordinary Luo Jinxiao from the mortal realm.
The Sect Leader studied her for a moment, then said, “I just probed your inner being.”
“Your spiritual roots have disappeared. Your current body, every inch of it, possesses boundless power, no longer comparable to any ordinary cultivator.”
“Even those who have reached the Great Ascension stage and become demigods still retain their spiritual roots, but you don’t. Jinxiao, are you a god?”
Luo Jinxiao looked up abruptly, meeting the Sect Leader’s gaze and nodding slightly.
The Sect Leader smiled softly, her light-colored eyes shimmering. She gently took Luo Jinxiao’s arm and said, “We’ll discuss this later. Let’s go see Luo Ning.”
The Sect Leader’s words always seemed to bring Luo Jinxiao a sense of calm. She nodded obediently and followed her to the next room.
Yan Ying was sitting on a bamboo chair beside the bed, quietly watching the sleeping Luo Ning.
“She seems to have gone without rest for a long time. Her prolonged sleep shows that she feels safe here with you, allowing her to finally relax,” the Sect Leader said softly.
Luo Jinxiao felt the truth in her words, as her own heart gradually settled.
Perhaps this was home?
Luo Ning suddenly murmured in her sleep and opened her eyes. She abruptly sat up, the panic in her eyes disappearing only after seeing Luo Jinxiao.
She smiled tearfully and whispered, “Sister, you’re awake.”
Luo Jinxiao’s lips curved slightly, her face still somewhat stiff, and she hummed in response.
“Hey, what about me? Miss Luo?” Yan Ying’s three years of longing turned into this slightly accusatory sentence as she leaned her face closer.
Luo Ning glanced at her, then looked away and snorted. “What’s so good about looking at you?”
“Are you scolding me?” Yan Ying suddenly laughed.
Luo Jinxiao watched the scene before her, the tension in her cheeks easing slightly, but then she was once again enveloped in melancholy. She turned to look at the Sect Leader and asked, “Where’s Qu Weiyin?”
The depths of the flower garden weren’t as warm. The Sect Leader had somehow managed to make these unknown white flowers bloom all year round.
Luo Jinxiao sat on a small mound, gazing at the falling petals in contemplation.
Qiongqi crawled up beside her, transforming into human form, and sat contemplating alongside her.
“What do you want to say?” Luo Jinxiao suddenly asked.
“Amazing,” Qiongqi replied, unsure whether she was praising her or expressing her hunger.
Luo Jinxiao suddenly realized that while she had slept for three years, Qiongqi had been hungry for just as long. Feeling guilty, she quickly pulled out some silver and said, “Go to Wuzhong City and buy yourself something to eat.”
Qiongqi took the silver and was about to run off, but Luo Jinxiao stopped it. “If you encounter any demons on the way, capture one alive for me.”
Her eyes gradually deepened, with a hint of ruthlessness.
After Qiongqi left, Lu Fanzhi approached, still nursing her sore back. She watched Luo Jinxiao from a distance before daring to come closer.
“Aren’t you going to apologize to me?” Lu Fanzhi asked with a pitiful expression.
Luo Jinxiao looked up and moved her hand. The wound on Lu Fanzhi’s back suddenly healed completely.
Lu Fanzhi was both surprised and delighted. She hopped over and sat beside Luo Jinxiao, patting her shoulder.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t move. She turned to look at her and said softly, “I’m sorry. I just…”
“It’s okay. I thought you had become a demon too. It’s good that you haven’t,” Lu Fanzhi said, then immediately realized her slip of the tongue and stuck out her tongue.
Luo Jinxiao’s eyes dimmed. She suddenly asked, “Has Qu Weiyin really become what you all say she is?”
Lu Fanzhi found it difficult to answer. “Those are just rumors in the Jianghu. They can’t be taken seriously. There are even rumors that the Demon Lord has a pair of fangs, four legs, and three heads.”
“But my master did see Qu Weiyin after she succumbed to demonic cultivation. He almost died that time. It was Qu Weiyin who nearly killed him. Fortunately, he managed to escape.”
Luo Jinxiao sat in a daze for a while, then suddenly said, “But I still don’t believe it. I want to see her, see her with my own eyes.”
She touched the jade pendant that Qu Weiyin had given her, which hung around her neck.
“But how are you going to enter the Demon Realm?” Lu Fanzhi asked.
“There’s always a way,” Luo Jinxiao said. A thousand emotions surged in her heart, ultimately turning into confusion.
With the current tension between immortals and demons, how could she prevent the impending catastrophe?
But no matter what, she had to find Qu Weiyin first.
She had promised her that no matter if she was an immortal, a yao, or a demon, she would never abandon her.
wait im confused, how are the god clan gone but luo ning found her 2 thousand years in the future? and the heavens are in the future too? or are the heavens separate from the god clan? and is it the luo ning is from the past but went to the future to find luo jinxiao? but how did the god clan die? im confused
