CHAPTER 87: Jealous

Sexual content warning.

When faint footsteps sounded, Ji Lingyue’s eyes snapped open, and she instinctively reached for Lan Wu beside her. But the person outside seemed to be just passing by. Soon, the door of the room next door creaked open, and the footsteps faded away with the sound of the door closing.

It didn’t take much thought to realize that the only person returning at this hour would be Xuan Yu. But after being out for so long, Ji Lingyue couldn’t help but worry. After hesitating for a while, she finally got out of bed, rustled into her outer robe, and was about to leave when a hand grabbed her sleeve.

She turned back to see the mermaid in bed, who had somehow woken up as well. Lan Wu was frowning and looking at her sleepily. “Where are you going?”

Ji Lingyue whispered, “I’m going to check on Xuan Yu.”

Lan Wu hummed, slowly sitting up and placing her feet on the shoes by the bed.

Ji Lingyue was taken aback. “What are you doing?”

“I’m coming with you,” Lan Wu replied, yawning again and looking at her with half-closed eyes. “Let’s go.”

“If you’re sleepy, you can just go back to sleep.”

Lan Wu shook her head stubbornly. “I’m coming with you.”

Ji Lingyue sighed in resignation and took her hand, leading her out. However, they had barely taken a few steps toward Xuan Yu’s room when the door opened, and someone carefully backed out, closing the door gently behind them.

Xuan Yu’s expression was complicated. She stood in front of the door for a while, lost in thought. Then, she sighed silently and turned around, only to be startled by the sight of two figures standing not far away. She almost cried out.

“Ji… Ji Lingyue?”

Ji Lingyue hummed, glancing at the bloodstains on Xuan Yu’s clothes. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” Xuan Yu said, taken aback. She pinched her sleeve and explained, “If you’re talking about the blood, it’s not mine… it’s Yao Zhu’s.”

“Yao Zhu? Did you fight with her?”

Xuan Yu shook her head. “She was already injured. After you left, she argued with me for a while, got too worked up, and coughed up blood before passing out…”

Ji Lingyue frowned, glancing hesitantly at the closed door. “You brought her inside?”

Xuan Yu smiled bitterly. “I couldn’t just leave her like that.”

“If you’re still so worried about her, why did you break the contract?” Ji Lingyue blinked, adding, “She seemed very unwilling.”

Xuan Yu didn’t answer immediately, instead giving Ji Lingyue a surprised look. “You’re actually concerned about a demon now.”

Ji Lingyue was momentarily stunned, but before she could respond, she felt a weight on her shoulder. She turned her head to see Lan Wu resting her chin there, her eyes half-closed and looking utterly exhausted.

“Lan Wu?”

Lan Wu hummed, leaning her weight against Ji Lingyue’s back and wrapping her arms around her waist, holding her close.

The gesture was possessive, almost like a declaration, but the domineering behavior seemed out of character for Lan Wu. Ji Lingyue looked at her, confused. Seeing that she still seemed tired, she assumed Lan Wu was just leaning on her to rest.

Xuan Yu’s expression, however, became more complex. She looked between the two of them and said hesitantly, “Lingyue… in your letter, you mentioned that you’re no longer a disciple of Haochen Mountain. Can I ask why?”

Ji Lingyue opened her mouth, but the words caught in her throat.

She wanted to tell Xuan Yu about her relationship with Lan Wu, but she didn’t know if Lan Wu would want her to. Ji Lingyue frowned, hesitating.

She turned to ask Lan Wu for her opinion, but felt something soft touch her cheek. Then, a low, gentle voice whispered in her ear, “This is the reason.”

Ji Lingyue’s eyes widened. She stared at Lan Wu, dumbfounded. Lan Wu gently pulled her, and she obediently followed.

It wasn’t until they were back in their room that she finally reacted, her face flushed. “You… you…”

“What about me?”

“How could you… kiss me in front of someone else?”

Lan Wu climbed into bed and lay down as if nothing had happened. “Wasn’t that what you did before? I was just repeating it.”

Ji Lingyue frowned, confused. After a moment, she remembered that she had indeed intentionally kissed Lan Wu in front of Yu Shanye.

“But that’s different,” Ji Lingyue argued. “Shanye isn’t an outsider!”

“Outsider?” Lan Wu yawned, sounding languid. “When you and Miss Xuan were chatting so happily and intimately, you didn’t seem like outsiders either.”

“When was I being intimate with her…” Ji Lingyue stopped mid-sentence, staring at Lan Wu.

“Are you…”

Lan Wu immediately said, “I’m not.”

“I haven’t even said what I was going to say!” Ji Lingyue pursed her lips, a smile gradually blossoming on her face. She climbed into bed and leaned close to Lan Wu, her eyes sparkling. “When we arrived earlier, I was talking to Xuan Yu and ignored you. Were you upset?”

Seeing that Lan Wu closed her eyes and didn’t reply, she thought for a moment and continued, “And when I heard noises and wanted to check on Xuan Yu in the middle of the night, you insisted on coming with me because you were jealous, weren’t you?”

Lan Wu frowned, unable to help but mutter, “I’m not that petty.”

“Then why did you do that?”

Lan Wu opened her long lashes, meeting Ji Lingyue’s bright eyes. She was speechless for a moment, then said helplessly, “Fine, let’s just say I was confused just now, bewitched into doing something so childish.”

“It wasn’t childish,” Ji Lingyue said seriously. “I liked it.”

She lowered her eyes and whispered, “It’s always been me who feels uneasy when others show interest in you. This is the first time you’ve been unsettled because of me.”

Lan Wu was slightly stunned. “Ah Yue…”

Ji Lingyue hummed, leaning down, her soft hair falling onto Lan Wu’s shoulder, a delicate fragrance filling the air. “Though it might sound a little mean, seeing you like this makes me happy.”

Lan Wu blinked, parting her lips to welcome Ji Lingyue’s passionate kiss. It wasn’t until her calloused fingers slipped under her thin clothing, cupping her soft breast, that Lan Wu trembled, a soft moan escaping her lips. “Ah Yue…”

Ji Lingyue kissed her wet eyelashes and whispered, “I’ll be gentle.”

She slid down, kissing Lan Wu’s pale neck, leaving a mark with a gentle suck. A low moan escaped Lan Wu’s throat as she looked at the ceiling with half-closed eyes, her hands reaching for Ji Lingyue’s shoulders.

Ji Lingyue continued to leave marks. She seemed to enjoy this, determined to mark Lan Wu’s most sensitive and intimate places. When her lips reached Lan Wu’s inner thigh, Lan Wu gasped, her arm covering her eyes as she mumbled. “Are you a puppy?”

“I’m not that silly creature…” Ji Lingyue’s muffled voice came from under the covers, sounding distant. But the next moment, Lan Wu felt a warm, wet heat press against her most sensitive spot, a soft tongue teasing her clit with inexperienced but eager strokes.

Lan Wu trembled, her legs tightening around the head between her thighs. “Mmm…”

In the wave of pleasure that washed over her, the mermaid’s pale cheeks flushed red. She collapsed onto the bed, her mind hazy as she thought, Tomorrow… I’ll probably sleep in again.
