Chapter 65: Treasure Hunt Competition

Qiongqi, fiercely protective of its master, was about to bite the attacker’s neck when Luo Jinxiao swiftly restrained her with a hand, giving her a playful wink.

“Hurry!” the man yelled again, dragging her along. Luo Jinxiao found it amusing and didn’t resist, following him out.

“T-Tang, Young Sect Leader Tang, I advise you to be sensible and hand over the invitation cards you stole!”

Luo Jinxiao’s expression turned to surprise upon hearing his words. The one leading the Baiyue Sect was none other than Tang Lan’er. Five years had passed, yet she hadn’t changed much. Her features were delicate, and her waist, adorned with layers of gold and jade ornaments, appeared even more slender and graceful, a clear indication of her noble status.

Tang Lan’er pointed her sword angrily, “You people from the Shengsi Sect have no shame! When you can’t defeat me, you resort to threatening civilians. Don’t you know your reputation in the Jianghu has been completely ruined these past few years?!”

“So what? I won’t kill her. But if you refuse to hand over the invitation cards, I’ll shave off all this girl’s hair. Can you bear to see such beautiful black hair destroyed?” The man said, pressing the knife closer to Luo Jinxiao’s neck.

Luo Jinxiao was taken aback by his threat and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

“The Treasure Hunting Event is about to start. Hurry up!” the man urged.

“The Celestial Authority has decreed that those whose invitations were confiscated are not allowed entry. I absolutely cannot give them to you! You must face the consequences of your actions!” Tang Lan’er retorted angrily.

Seeing her attitude, the man became desperate. He raised his knife, intending to intimidate her. However, the seemingly motionless woman in black suddenly raised her hand and snapped her fingers at the knife.

In that brief moment of confusion, the knife instantly turned to iron dust, scattering onto the ground.

Tang Lan’er seized the opportunity, pulling Luo Jinxiao behind her and slashing with her sword. The remaining disciples of the Shengsi Sect swarmed forward, and both sides were once again locked in a chaotic battle.

Luo Jinxiao patted her sleeves, calmly retreating to the back to observe the fight. She grabbed a disciple who was lagging behind and asked, “Fellow cultivator, may I ask if an invitation card is absolutely necessary to enter the Treasure Hunting Event?”

The Baiyue Sect disciple stopped fighting and chatted with Luo Jinxiao, “Indeed. In previous years, anyone could enter freely. However, there were always those who caused trouble after failing to obtain treasures. This year, they’ve become wiser and only issued a limited number of invitation cards. Sects that have caused trouble before or those without spiritual roots are not allowed entry.”

Luo Jinxiao nodded, thinking to herself, Then I can’t enter without an invitation card. How am I supposed to find Junior Shishu?

She looked at Tang Lan’er, who was still fighting, and an idea came to mind. She asked the disciple, “Does your Young Sect Leader have any extra invitation cards? As the Young Sect Leader, she should be able to bring people in, right?”

“It’s possible, but the Young Sect Leader is quite willful and difficult to talk to,” the disciple replied, shaking his head.

Luo Jinxiao pondered for a moment, then suddenly moved, appearing behind a black-clothed man who was fighting Tang Lan’er. She crossed her arms and simply glanced at him. Fine ice crystals immediately formed on the man’s body, freezing him in place, and his spirit sword fell from his hand.

Mid-fight, Tang Lan’er was stunned to see her opponent freeze and collapse. She looked up and met the gaze of the woman in black, whose eyes were deep and clear.

“I’ll help you deal with them if you take me inside. How does that sound?” Luo Jinxiao’s voice was pleasant and carried a hint of familiarity.

Before Tang Lan’er could react, the woman in black moved with a speed invisible to the naked eye. When she reappeared in front of her, the disciples of the Shengsi Sect were all lying on the ground.

Tang Lan’er’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“You’re a cultivator too. Who are you?” she asked in astonishment.

“I’m certainly not a bad person. I’ve dealt with your enemies, so will you take me inside or not?” Luo Jinxiao leaned forward, hands behind her back, tilting her chin upwards.

Tang Lan’er took a step back, biting her lip. “I can take you in, but let me see your face first. Otherwise, how do I know if you’re human or ghost?”

Luo Jinxiao chuckled and pointed at her own shadow. “In broad daylight, do you think I could have come from the netherworld?”

Tang Lan’er felt a strong sense of familiarity, yet also difference. She couldn’t quite place it. Her eyes darted around, and when Luo Jinxiao seemed distracted, she reached out to snatch her veil. Luo Jinxiao effortlessly dodged.

Tang Lan’er missed and her face flushed red with anger. She tried to grab it again, but Luo Jinxiao didn’t want to waste any more time. She raised her hand, caught Tang Lan’er’s wrist, and removed her veil herself, sighing. “There you go. Remember to keep your promise after you see.”

With the black veil removed, the first things revealed were a high, straight nose and pink, delicate lips. During her five years in the mountains, Luo Jinxiao’s skin had become even fairer, as if it could be broken with a gentle touch. Under the sunlight, it even seemed to glow faintly.

Her almond-shaped eyes were naturally charming and delicate, but paired with her gaze, they inexplicably added a touch of coldness. Her dark pupils were like deep pools, seemingly capable of captivating one’s soul.

Tang Lan’er was stunned, unaware that Luo Jinxiao had already released her hand.

“Luo Jinxiao?” she exclaimed.

“Shh, keep it down,” Luo Jinxiao said, raising a finger to her lips.

Tang Lan’er lowered her voice and reached out to touch Luo Jinxiao’s arm, confirming that she was still warm. Only then did she speak, “You… weren’t you dead? In that battle five years ago, everyone said you died at the hands of the demons. I even burned paper money for you. How are you alive?”

“Ah? People said I was dead?” Luo Jinxiao was hearing this for the first time and was quite surprised.

Tang Lan’er’s expression was a mixture of astonishment and joy. She spun around and pulled Luo Jinxiao’s sleeve, heading towards the crowd, asking her where she had been for the past five years.

Luo Jinxiao remained silent, giving vague answers while her eyes scanned the crowd, searching for any trace of Qu Weiyin.

“Hey, why aren’t you talking?” Tang Lan’er tugged at her, annoyed.

“Shh, give me two invitation cards,” Luo Jinxiao said, holding out her hand.

Tang Lan’er pouted and, with an “oh,” took out the invitation cards and handed them to Luo Jinxiao. Luo Jinxiao then passed them to Qiongqi beside her. Qiongqi held the cards, giggling foolishly as it tried to lean against Luo Jinxiao.

Tang Lan’er pulled Qiongqi away and looked up at Luo Jinxiao. “Who is she?”

“My daughter,” Luo Jinxiao replied casually, pulling Qiongqi through the entrance.

“Daughter? When did you have a daughter?” Tang Lan’er, having received quite a few shocks today, hurried after them.

The Treasure Hunting Event was packed with people. Luo Jinxiao and her companions arrived late and could only find seats on the outer edges. The venue was vast, with the central circular platform alone measuring over ten meters wide.

Not wanting to be recognized, Luo Jinxiao put her veil back on, but her eyes continued to scan the crowd. She saw many familiar faces, even spotting Chi Yi not far away. Chi Yi still maintained his righteous appearance, sitting upright in his seat.

Luo Jinxiao smiled, suddenly realizing that for the outside world, these past five years must have felt like a fleeting moment.
