Chapter 81: Hold Me
“I didn’t, I didn’t do anything, I swear.” Luo Jinxiao guessed she must have misunderstood something and hurriedly raised her hands. Seeing Qu Weiyin so heartbroken, she felt uncomfortable herself, her heart twisting into knots.
“Do you think I’m incredibly boring, that I can only hide my worries and not speak them? I deserve it, Luo Jinxiao.” Qu Weiyin choked, raising her wide sleeves to wipe the tears from her face. “Why did you have to appear? It would have been better if everything had remained the same.”
“The first time I died, I was filled with hatred for everything. I wanted to see corpses everywhere, to slaughter all living beings and become a true demon.”
“But the second time I died, I just wanted to end it all. I didn’t want to see these mountains and rivers ever again.”
“But you made me stay.” Qu Weiyin said.
Luo Jinxiao’s eyes were also moist as she stood motionless.
“I really don’t know what to do…” Qu Weiyin’s voice became fainter and fainter, as if it would be blown away by the wind at any moment. She suddenly staggered forward two steps, and the sword in her hand clattered to the ground.
Luo Jinxiao subconsciously stepped forward and opened her arms. Qu Weiyin fell into her embrace, her cheek resting on her shoulder. The last hot tear flowed down Luo Jinxiao’s neck and into her clothes.
“Why is the demonic energy around you so strong?” Luo Jinxiao said hoarsely. She sniffed and turned, carrying Qu Weiyin on her back.
“Don’t let me see the Sect Leader. I’ll want to kill her.” Qu Weiyin suddenly said. “Take me back.”
Luo Jinxiao didn’t dare disobey. She ran a few quick steps, and their bodies vanished.
The night breeze swept through the entrance hall as Luo Jinxiao burst in carrying Qu Weiyin on her back. They ran right into Lu Fanzhi and the others who had been waiting in the hall. Everyone stared at each other in shock, rising to their feet.
“Did you find Junior Shishu Qu?” Lu Fanzhi’s eyes followed Luo Jinxiao as she bypassed the screen.
“Yes.” Luo Jinxiao said concisely, rushing into the inner room.
At this time, Luo Ning waved to Lu Fanzhi, and the others secretly slipped out.
Luo Jinxiao had no time to care about anyone now. She placed Qu Weiyin on the bed, touched her forehead with her hand, and said anxiously, “Why is it so hot? I…”
“It’s okay. If I die, you can be with someone else, fulfilling your wish.” Qu Weiyin struggled to hold onto the edge of the bed, propping up her delicate shoulders, and looked at Luo Jinxiao.
“What are you talking about? What will I do if you die?” Luo Jinxiao was angry when she heard this and raised her voice.
“Lie down.” Luo Jinxiao commanded.
Qu Weiyin didn’t move. She looked at Luo Jinxiao for a moment, then suddenly leaned forward. The distance between them suddenly shortened, and Luo Jinxiao could see each of her curled eyelashes.
“Then do you want to… before I turn into a demon?” She lowered her voice, her tone suddenly becoming seductive, but her eyes were still filled with pain.
Seeing the blood in her eyes, Luo Jinxiao suddenly felt her heart leap out of her chest, and her mind buzzed.
She took a breath in a daze and said, “What?”
“Dual cultivation.” Qu Weiyin replied.
Luo Jinxiao was so startled by these two words that she almost fell off the bed. She clutched her chest, to make sense of the situation while forcing herself to say, “Could it be that you… think I’ve done dual cultivation with someone else?”
The sudden change in Qu Weiyin’s eyes told Luo Jinxiao she had guessed correctly, and her mind felt like it was about to explode.
“How could I possibly do dual cultivation with anyone? You, me, what kind of logic is this?” She felt like crying. To think she had been racking her brains trying to figure out what she had done wrong.
It was simply absurd.
“I don’t know where you heard this from, but I, Luo Jinxiao, would never do something so improper,” Luo Jinxiao said emphatically.
“Really?” Qu Weiyin’s eyes immediately began to avoid her gaze.
“Of course, and with Junior Shishu here, even if I wanted to dual cultivate, I wouldn’t look for anyone else…” Luo Jinxiao mumbled.
Hearing this, Qu Weiyin unconsciously bit her lip and pushed herself away from Luo Jinxiao. Looking up, she asked, “Then why did Qiongqi say you and the Sect Leader…”
Qiongqi? Luo Jinxiao was so angry that she couldn’t speak. She immediately got up to go and beat her up, but Qu Weiyin grabbed her sleeve.
She turned around and said loudly, “You believe her? That creature thinks any sentence over two words is too long. She only uses words she fancies when she speaks. It’s lucky if you can understand her at all. You believed what she said and got yourself so angry?”
“I was asking the Sect Leader for guidance on my cultivation and happened to mention dual cultivation. Qiongqi must have overheard just that part.”
Only then did Qu Weiyin realize what a big misunderstanding she had caused. She suddenly clenched her fists, furrowed her brow, and turned her face away.
To think that she, the great Demon Lord reborn, could end up in such an embarrassing situation.
The pain earlier was real, and the awkwardness now was equally real.
Luo Jinxiao sighed, but at the same time, joy overwhelmed the anger and heartache that flooded her mind.
Qu Weiyin was so angry because she thought she had dual cultivated with the Sect Leader. Did this mean that she had feelings for her?
Sensing the sudden surge of joy emanating from Luo Jinxiao, Qu Weiyin lowered her head to rest on her knees.
“Junior Shishu, look at me.” Luo Jinxiao sat down and curled her lips.
Qu Weiyin was too embarrassed to lift her head and chose to ignore Luo Jinxiao’s words.
“Did you just say that you could… with me…”
“Shut up.” Qu Weiyin snapped. She quickly wiped her still-damp face before releasing her arms from around her knees.
Luo Jinxiao raised her hand to wipe her tears. Qu Weiyin sniffed and muttered to herself, “This is so embarrassing.”
Luo Jinxiao laughed when she heard this. She had never seen Qu Weiyin like this before. She was so adorable.
“You care about me, don’t you?” Luo Jinxiao suddenly asked, her expression serious. She tilted her head slightly, her bangs falling to cast shadows on her face in the candlelight.
Qu Weiyin didn’t answer. Instead, she said softly, “You know that I’ve been reborn, don’t you? That I was once the ruthless, universally hated Demon Lord?”
This time it was Luo Jinxiao’s turn to be silent.
“I’ve always wanted to ask you why you were never surprised by certain things. Now that I think about it, you weren’t surprised because you already knew.”
“But if you knew it was me, why didn’t you stay away?” Qu Weiyin asked.
Luo Jinxiao looked into her eyes, then lowered her head and picked at her sleeve with her fingers. After a while, she said, “Because I like you. Before you, no one saved me again and again, no one cared so much about my safety. I’ve never met a better person than you.”
Qu Weiyin was stunned. Hearing these words from Luo Jinxiao’s mouth still made her heart tremble.
“You’ve seen me back then, haven’t you?” Qu Weiyin asked again.
Luo Jinxiao nodded like a child being questioned.
Qu Weiyin stared at Luo Jinxiao’s bowed head, feeling as if she could look at her for a hundred years.
Suddenly, she clutched her forehead, and faint black energy spread from between her eyebrows, unable to be suppressed any longer.
Although Luo Jinxiao was anxious, she didn’t know what to do. She could only watch intently, her eyes full of concern.
“You see, I can no longer contain the demonic energy. I will soon return to my old ways, bloodthirsty and cruel. If you hadn’t truly angered me this time, I wouldn’t have revealed even a hint of this.”
Hearing this, Luo Jinxiao instinctively grabbed her hand.
“It won’t be long now. After I’m gone, or dead, please be with someone else, alright, Jinxiao?” Qu Weiyin said, her voice almost pleading. “This is the first time I’ve experienced these feelings. It’s not pleasant.”
“You won’t die.” Luo Jinxiao said resolutely, her vision blurring. “Where else can you go? I can go to the Demon Realm. Wherever you go, I’ll go and find you.”
“That’s what I’m most afraid of.” Qu Weiyin’s chest heaved, and she closed her eyes slightly.
But it wasn’t that she didn’t hope for it.
“Don’t be afraid, I’ll always be with you.” Luo Jinxiao sighed softly, stroking her cheek and brushing her long eyelashes, wiping away the remaining water droplets.
“I’ll make you truly trust me.” Luo Jinxiao said quietly, smiling through her tears as she swayed in front of Qu Weiyin.
Qu Weiyin’s lips couldn’t help but soften slightly. Her pale fingers pushed Luo Jinxiao’s head away as she murmured, “You’re impossible.”
“But next time, don’t risk your life to save me. I want to see you live well, cultivate step by step, and one day stand at the peak of this world, looking down on everything.”
Luo Jinxiao felt a little unhappy when she heard this, muttering to herself how everyone was like this.
She felt like there were several human walls in front of her, all treating her like a delicate flower. “But if there really is such a day, I hope I won’t be alone.” Luo Jinxiao shook her head.
She didn’t want to end up alone. She wanted to continue living her current life peacefully.
Seeing Qu Weiyin crying so heartbrokenly and her weak body, she thought of teasing her and suddenly asked, “How exactly does this dual cultivation improve one’s powers?”
Qu Weiyin hummed for a while with a heavy nasal voice before slowly saying, “I’ve only heard others speak of it. It’s said to be faster than conventional methods, but it can’t really be openly discussed since it involves two people doing… that…”
She couldn’t continue and no longer dared to look at Luo Jinxiao.
“No wonder Junior Shishu is so jealous.” Luo Jinxiao chuckled. “Then do you still mean what you said earlier?”
“No, I don’t.” Qu Weiyin mumbled.
Luo Jinxiao pouted, thinking to herself how quickly Qu Weiyin had changed her mind.
Qu Weiyin sat with her knees bent for a while, gradually losing strength. She raised her delicate hand, slowly touching Luo Jinxiao’s arm before resting it in the crook of her arm.
The woman’s skin was soft and cool.
“Hold me.” She said.
Luo Jinxiao’s mind went blank. She didn’t react, only staring at Qu Weiyin’s stunningly beautiful face under the dim light.
“Are you deaf?” Qu Weiyin frowned slightly and rebuked.
“No, I’m not deaf.” Luo Jinxiao stammered. Then, with a stiff body, she leaned forward, wrapping her arms around Qu Weiyin’s shoulders and gently holding her.
Happiness came too suddenly, and she wasn’t ready.
Qu Weiyin fell into the embrace, her face pressed against Luo Jinxiao’s neck. She hugged Luo Jinxiao’s waist tightly, as if afraid she might slip away.
“I was truly enraged earlier, and I almost had the urge to kill.”
“In fact,, if you had run away with someone else, I might have immediately collapsed and become a demon.”
“I’m so scared, Luo Jinxiao.”
